What gauge?
Saturday, March 03, 2007 1:53 AM
To run the wiring from the battery to the amp, I obviously need to connect the power wire to the battery. My question is HOW? There is only one lead on the battery terminal that I can see. I thought about getting an aftermarket battery lead with two outputs, but I don't know what Gauge wire is already connected to the battery to run the engine/charging system. I have an 02' Cavalier ls and need a recomendation. Thanks

I have an issue with cutting perfectly good battery cables. If it were me, i would either buy one of those side post extenders (allows you to put multiple cables on a single terminal, or just buy a dual post battery. I hate cutting into cables, leads to early death..

Robert, you most likey have 4AWG on your battery. I would suggest you going to an audio store and getting a GM battery post extender. It is basically the stock bolt on the battery, but at the tip it has another nut for connecting additional ring terminals to the battery. That is going to be the easiest way, and most likely the cheapest.

I dont think he has 4 awg stock. None of us do, if we did we wouldent be doing the big 3 upgrade. I say its 8-10 awg

The Big 3 upgrade is for grounding, they are the ground wires. The wire he is asking about is the battery positive wire to the starter.

From the sticky:

1) Battery negative to chassis
2) Alternator to battery positive
3) Chassis to engine

purchase a gm side post adapter from autozone.

attach a ring terminal to your 4awg power wire, and install your adapter to your battery.

IT'S NOT HARD

Hey, thanks I think I'll go the post adaptor route, inexpensive and all.
