I've been shopping for a somewhat basic amp and dual 12" subs. And found quite a few, I know that there are some really good brands out there and such, but is it really worth it to go with a better brand than higher wattage for the dollar? I saw a Kicker ZX400.1 and 2 05c12-4's in a package for $274 no shipping charges. I know that this is a good buy, however the total Rms power between the two subs is only 300 Watts. If I place the subs in my trunk (I have a sedan so I can bring down the back seat trunk opening) Will it really even be noticeable? Right now I've got some low grade sony's that I got from walmart in my front and back speaker slots just to get rid of the damn stock sound, so seeing as how each speaker I can hear in the car is 23 watts rms from my HU, I naturally assume that 300 watts will give me some nice bass. And also, individual ported boxes or one singe ported box for both subs? Oh, and I was wondering, if my HU is rated for 23x4 watts rms, with everything centered, do all the speakers get exactly 23 watts each at full volume or what? I never quite got how that part of things worked. Cause I get distortion on any volume past 23 (HU goes up to 35) Now is that distortion caused from each speaker getting too many volts and not enough wattage? or Just being crappy speakers? Finally, is that distortion that I hear known as the ever famous clipping?
The kicker amp is awesome, I am very happy with mine, Go sealed if your looking for sound quality and ported if you wanna go louder. The sound from your speakers is your deck distorting, Putting an amp to your speakers will bring your whole stereo alive.. Oh and your deck will most likely not put out exactly what it says for RMS rating, it wouldnt be far off but i dont believe it is all that efficient, an amp on the other hand is.
kicker is worth every cent, i would never waste money on another brand for subs

I agree, I have kicker for my 6x9s, but went RE for my subs and can't be any happier. I'm not hatin on the Kickers though, my friend has a solo baric but my 1 RE SE has such a better "quality" in bass over his Kickers IMO. I'm probably going eD when the time comes, that is if I am able to crush my RE or something.
your headunit is putting out most likely half of that 23 watts on a good day. amplify those speakers and watch the bass on them and they will sound allot better. also know that kicker undderrates their amps. my 500 watt kicker amp actually puts out a little over 700 watts. if you go with the amp and subs, pick up another smaller amp to power your mids and highs and your system will sound worlds better.

Well it puts out 700 in perfect conditions. I have the kx600.1 and the birthsheet says 754w at 2 ohms. Now i have it at 2 ohms and its definitely not putting out 754 watts even at 15v. I love the amp though and have purchased a kicker kx600.4 for a future project.
how do you know its not putting out that wattage. did you clamp it or was the trusty ear o meter being used.

that's because birth sheets aren't worth the paper they are printed on.
It did that 754 while hooked up on a bench to some resistors. no varying load, no varying voltage.

i tested my 12" L7 solo baric and my sx900.2 after getting them today and the single 12 hits harder than anything ive ever heard. i talk to guys whi have 2 12" L7's who have been metered and they average around 148 db. so im sticking with kicker..
many changes in the making
my favorite part about doing bodywork,.......... bondo bugers
i have the kicker 600.1. Very good amp. Never gets hot...not even warm, and def puts out more than 600...shakes the mirror right off my windsheild. i have it paired with one L5 in a vented enclosure. Its no competition setup but it def give you more than enough bump IMO and i have been through some powerful systems in my earlier years.

and you think that is as loud as 2 12's go? i did a 145.8 at 32 hz on 2 kicker L7 12's and ive heard 2 12's get way louder
KICKER is the way to go, GOT my two 12's powered by my Alpine amp and it rattles my car enough, Beleive me !
Does someone want to show me how to get perfect conditions in my car? I know dozens of competitors that would pay money to get that secret. Me included.
Wysi is right - birth sheets aren't worth the paper they are printed on.
Amps are tested with power supplies that put out constant 14.4V, on a constant load. Nothing in car audio really approaches either in a real world situation.

kicker isnt a company that puts up smoke and mirrors to test its amps output. now if this were a pyle or jenson brand we were talking about then yeah i'd say the numbers dont matter but kicker is a reputable company that always underrates their amps so if your buying a 500 watt amp and in the " best condititons" it puts out 725 watts you can be pretty confident knowing that you got yourself a 500 watt amp.
