ok guys... 2000 cavalier.. all stock.. I've got about $600.00 to spend... what would be the best bang for the buck? build my system

I have about $600 in my system, so I can give it to you as an example, but it all comes down to what you want out of your stereo.

* Pioneer DEH-P4800 Head Unit
* Blaupunkt TSX-693 6x9s
* Blaupunkt TSX-462 4x6s
* Dayton Loudspeaker 10" Reference Series Subwoofer
* Profile 480W RMS Amp

The head unit I just picked up at Best Buy for about $180. I'm sure it's either cheaper by now, or been replaced by something else altogether.

My 6x9s and 4x6s produce crisp mids and highs. I have a high pass filter on them via the head unit. These speakers are no longer produced so you would have to something else for these.

I love the 10" Dayton Loudspeaker sub. It sits behind my passenger seat. You're not going to be rattling people's windows with it, but it gives a nice thump to your music. You can get it here.

The amp I picked up at crutchfield for about 130 after shipping.
