Marine Speakers

What is the diffence between automotive and marine speakers??

I notice the tweeters are different, they have a "horn" on the tweeter.
They magnets and terminals seem to be different, probably to prevent corrosion.

Is there any difference in sound though??

havnt spent much time with marine gear but i'd bet its not as good sounding. the manufacturers will spend more time making sure its protected from the elements rather then wether its better then their car audio gear.

actually marine speakers sound really good. Just the sound stage is horrible because of placement. basically they have a higher tolerance for heat, cold and moisture. plus they are usually more expensive for lower power ones, simply because of the sealing.

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

These are on ebay (obviously) they are audiobahn so I would expect their numbers to be a little inflated but, they arent expensive, for what you get, and the look pretty good.

chris if you are looking for some marine speakers you need to come by the shop here. We have some memphis and I think we have a couple sets of kenwoods still. I think the memphis ones would look pretty hawt seeing as they are white with a white grill

Not really looking for them, I have 2 sets of 6.5" speakers (one currently installed the others back-ups) but I just fiberglassed some speaker pods in my door panels, they said they were for 6.5" speakers but the speakers fit so tight I cant even get the screws in to hold them in, much less the grills on, which is needed, due to their postiton. So I gotta run with 5.25" speakers, but while looking around I found the marine speakers and was like "these look pretty hot, wonder what the difference is?" and hence this post

If I was you I would only run the marine speakers it you planned on putting them on the outside of the car, other than that I would go with the normal ones.

most marines arent neccesarily better (sound wise) they were made to withstand the weather, hot and extreme cold. Most of the known brands spend more on R&D to make them better in that way which will ultimately take away from the sound. Like I said I have a set in my truck and if you want to hear some before you buy any kind then let me know. If you are going on looks alone, then I would say go ahead. BTW are you going to amp them? I can pretty much bet my life that those speakers are not 80 watts and peak at 160
