So i was kicking around the idea of skipping the whole headunit thing since ive got an MP3 player and just wiring the headunit adaptor for the MP3 into the speakers? I dont know this is infact just a crazy hair on the ass idea but it would save some people money if you could just wire an MP3 player into the headunit adaptor.

ummm i'm not sure what you mean by "headunit adapter"

but you could always buy a 3.5mm plug to RCA cable, and plug that into an amp as your low level input. wont work directly to speakers though, must be through an amp.

basicly hes sayin he wants to just use his MP3 player as his main source or audio instead of buyin a CD player and runnin the MP3 player throught the cd player. No clue how you would do this tho.

just like Viper said. he'd have to use an amp. there's no way that MP3 player is going to drive the speakers inside the car.

I got an idea here. Why dont you use a Sony PSP with 3.5mm to RCA adapter? Use ABS to fill in the area where the factory deck went. Attach the psp to the ABS in a manner that it may swing out for access to the USB port and to play the video game part. Run a car charger for it by splicing the positive to a switched source and the ground to the firewall inside. Then, plug the rcas into an eq and run amps on all the speakers. You can buy PSP Movie Creator program and a 1 or 2GB Memory Stick Duo and put movies, slide shows of your car or etc, or tons of MP3s on the stick. Plus you could keep virtually unlimited sticks in the car. So, on the principal you wanted to do the mp3 player, you will have a monitor and a deck in the dash along with a PSP. Plus, you will have wireless internet in the car so you can check email, JBO and other sources when you are near a wireless source. I did have my PSP mounted below my current Sony deck in my S10 and it was cool to watch the music videos on a deck that looked like the cd player the sound was running through.
