Gauge Cluster swap

I have a automatic 96' Cav with no Tach on the guage cluster... just speedometer, heat, and gas gauges. I was wondering if I could go to a junkyard and find a guage cluster with a tach that would fit my year modle and hook it up to the slot that all the gauge cluster wires go into and get a rpm read from it?

Yup, you can swap in a cluster from a similar Cavalier... then you need to do a Passlock re-learn, as described here in the FAQ: http://www.j-body.org/faq//98/

Don't stray too far from 96... it may not work. 97, 98... should be OK. But compare the wiring in your car to the wrecked one first to make sure it's the same. 2000+ will definitely not work.
