electrical engine fire, need help

well my deck had been turnin on and off on its own so i figured it was a problem with the ground from the deck

so i change the ground and i put the ground on the thread that comes off right after the power steering resevoir on the block

when i reattached the neg batt connection there was a lot of sparking, but i though nothin of it and screwed it in

immediatly the newly located ground caught on fire, i put it out with a fire extinguisher, and it began again

it finally went out when the ground literally fried all the way through

now there is no power to anything in the car

there is power to the starter, and to the alternator but we havent traced it any further than that

what we do know though is none of the fuses in the engine bay are getting power, and neither are the fuses in the car

so my questions to you call are these

why did this happen

and are there any suggestions on how to fix it, short of tracing the power all the way

thank you guys

Fuseable link??
I'm not exactly sure where it is or what it controls but it sounds like it'd be a good thing to check.

we have checked all of the fuses under the hood and under the dash

nothing, no power to any of them

mind you the fire was right where the cold air intake would be ina 2.4

to the left and north of the battery, and to the right of the cruise control resevoir

Does the battery show 12V across it?

Ban low-performance cars, not high-performance ones.

i dont think we have checked the fuseable link

does anyone know where it is located on the 2.4 wiring?

what motor you got??? i believe the fusible link is in the wire from the alt to the battery but if you have power from the alt then thats fine! to me it sounds like the wire from the battery to the fuse box not hard to find is toasted! check that out if not pop the fuse panel out under the hood and see if anything looks fried and melted!
