car came with cruise---no place to put new fuse

I did a search to see if anyone else had a similair problem, but could only find posts on adding cruise to non-cruise cars.

I have a 99 with the 2.2 and 3-speed auto. This used to be my cousins car (he bought it brand new) and when I got the car, the cruise would cut out, or speed up by itself. Then it stopped working. I opened the fuse door, and a fuse fell out. It was the one for cruise control. I tried to get a new one in, but it had nothing to seat it. The terminals that holds the fuse in the fuse panel were not there. The fuse that fell out was completely blown, no metal on the inside except for the prongs. Those were brownish-black. Only other electrical problem that I am aware of is the ABS rarely works. Well, it's almost non-existent. Don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. Thanks for the help.

Alright, my first post may have been confusing. Basically the car has cruise control. Then it started working sporadically, then quit. The fuse was blown. And when I went to change it, it was loose. The "plugs" that sit inside the fuse box are no longer there (the two strips of metal that sit inside the fuse slots, where the fuse plugs into). Anyone know what would cause them to disappear? Thanks.

Sounds like the pins have been pushed out of the fuse panel, inside of it... that's bad, because they could short out there....

You'd have to remove the fuse panel to pull it apart to figure it out for sure.

Would that only short out the cruise control motor, or could it cause a fire?

If they're pushed inside, they could short out anything they can touch. In short, yeah it could cause a fire.

Well crap, that's not cool. Would the whole dash need to come off to gain access to the back of the fuse panel? If anyone has been back there before, could you let me know how you got there? Thanks to everyone for your help.

last time i was back there all i needed to do was remove the fuse pannel cover. next, remove the plastic cover that goes around the rest of the fuse pannel area, the same process that you would need to do to remove the dash.

theres should be some clips on the outside of the fuse pannel. push that cli[p in and i cant remember if you have to push the fuse pannel out from inbehind or push it in from the front.

i think you push in on the front. the fuse pannel will pop inside of the dash area. turn it on an angle and then push it out from the back so you have access to it. its a bit of a pain in the ass.

Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!

see if that is an aftermarket unit, should be able to tell by looking at the lever sticking out of the steering coloum. is it off color, differnt shape? Also look uner the hood over near the passengers side fire wall, is there an aftermarket cruise control unit? non factory cruise cars HAVE that spot for a fuse, its not used. There are no prongs there to hold a fuse. (Maybe one on the bottom of the fuse holder, does that make sense?) Dealers would add Cruise to a car to make a sale. If thats the case look under the dash for a fuse in a aftermarket unit.
