SQ Guys on here
Friday, September 01, 2006 8:37 AM
Guys,

I just bought a Pioneer Premier 880, the one w. the 16 band dual EQs and everything. I am looking into speakers. What companys do you guys use or what do you look for in a quality set of SQ speakers? Componants?

I sell Polk, Kicker and Eclipse at my job, but I am willing to sacrifice my employee discount to compete.

Thanks!

Sam

I've heard VERY good things about the speakers from http://www.edesignaudio.com and if you're in the states, you get a discount from this forum (And even if you aren't they're well priced for the specs they offer)

I'll be picking up a sub from them soon.

the eD 6500s used to sell for $350 at one point. Thats what I paid for them before I started working here 6 months ago.

They then went on sale to $300 with forum discount price of $250.

We now offer them for a limited time of $185.

When people compare these speakers, they usually get associated with speakers that run around $350-$500.

cast basket 6.5" mid with 1" silk dome tweeter.

Crossover has -3, 0, and +3 tweeter attenuation.

cant be touched for the price right now.

We carry the Polk DB series in the store, but I can get almost anything through Polk directly. I don't like the way they sound though, I think it is too "bassy" for the front/rear speakers and I plan on getting a nice sub anyways for bass. I actually like the Kicker as a personal favorite, but I am curious to see what other people have and suggest for competition.

if you like kicker go with the kicker. most of it is in the install. ive seen just about every manufacturer of audio gear make it to the finals in someones car. a good judge will care less whos name is on the speaker thing about being to bassy is u want the speakers upfront to put out good midbass. seems like the majority of comments i hear at sq events is from people having to much bass and not enough midbass.

so what is your overall price range for a good set of comps and what kind of sound appeals to you? are u talking competing in comps, or setting up a kick ass system for your own personal enjoyment?

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

I just bought a 20 inch widescreen ultrasharp flat pannel..I'm going to have to subscribe to the high quality porn places now......damn

JL, I am just looking now and buying in pieces. Price range wise, prob about 200/pair of speakers, but I hope to end up spending less, and I alreadly like a TCSounds sub. I can do the installations myself and I will be making custom door panels. This would be for competeing in competitions, and to have an awesome system!

First forget about the TCSounds sub. You have to be retarded imho to not get elemental designs subs. Those thnigs are so underrated, they are mosters. They will bring to life new rattles in your car. You will not find anything that will compete with names like JL Audio for the money that you will put down for ED subs. A friend has 2 11Ov.2 in his Durango and they hurt my ears when it is crancked up.

I am not looking for SPL, I want some SQ. I don't know anything about ED, but I am open to suggestions. Plus, I thing I am either gonna get one sub in the trunk, or two in the trunk, or one in the trunk and two in the backseat---my own design. Any other suggestions for SQ subs, let me know!

I dont think CC dropped them, I think they dropped CC. I think BB gets more sales than CC so some of those companies switched to BB. It kinda sucks, I wanted to get some more infinity stuff but w/e.

On to the topic at hand now. As far as component speakers I think I remember seeing the kicker ones for 250-300, and IMO for that amount of money there are better things you can buy. But if possible, try to get as much stuff through accomodations as possible. There are going to be better things but for the price you'll pay it isnt that big of a deal IMO. I got a 12" L5, infinity 600 watt and 520x4 amp, infinity perfect components, RCAs and all the wires I needed for less than 650$ shipped. I havent really looked at eclipse accomodations so I dont know if they have any good component speakers, but I would definetly try to get your sub(s), amp(s) and all the wires you need through accomodations.

if you can get kicker through work get the kicker ss components i also used to work for C.C. and u will get a good deal on them

I def am thinking about the SS or RS components. And a 4-channel from Kicker as well.

I am at a loss for the sub though. I like the way the L5 hits, but I also like the TC Sounds LMS(I think is the line) sub. And an amp as well I would like suggestions on.

We currently still carry MTX, but not Infinity or Alpine.

ive never been a fan of kicker,i liked the polk db's over the kickers....if u do get kicker components i wouldnt get a kicker 4channel amp,i got the 5 channel amp threw accomidations n i sent it back to kicker 3 times, the damn thing never got fixed n now it sits here collecting dust, not to mention we constantly had people returning the kicker amps b/c they just stopped working(and not due to improper installation).....id get mtx 4 channel through accomidations,70% off retail i believe mtx is and there amps r immaculate and usually underated when it comes to rms,ive had mine in my beater for a year n a half running mtx 6x9's and 6.5's n havent had a single problem, but its ur money just puttin my 2cents,go0d luck
