Battery Kill Switch.

Does anyone run one of these?

I need to because the battery is in the trunk, and AutoX rules, and NHRA/IHRA rules say I need a cut off switch.

I wired mine up today, and ran into a problem....

When the key is turned to "off" the battery shuts off.
When car is running, and you hit the battery kill, it stays running.

Does this mean that the car runs off the altentaor, and do I need to connect the Alt. Wire to the switch as well for instant kill?

Need to get this solved ASAP. Want to start auto-x and hitting the drag strip in a few weeks,

...

Yes, once the car is started it runs off the alternator. If you want to be able to kill the engine, just wire the switch up to the ignition wire in the harness from the key cylinder.

nhra requires that it actually "disconnects" the battery not just kill the car

I had one in my silver car... you need to run two large gauge wires from the trunk to the engine.... one goes from the battery to the switch to the starter, the other from the alternator, to the switch (on the battery side). So that when you turn off the switch, you actually cut the engine off....

I'm sure there's other ways to do it... but I can't think of it right now (I'm tired!)
