would a 200 amp alt suffice

Alright, so i got 3 amps...and im planning, not sure yet tho, on gettin another amp...The one puts out 120~watts rms, and the other two put out about 600~ watts rms....my questions is would a 200 amps alterntor be good for what i got...like 1320watts rms + other normal car functions, and have room for improvement of like...another 240ish watts....or would i need to go bigger?

more then enough, although you should look into a big 3 upgrade and a second yellow top or blue top if you want to be on the safe side.

1320 watts draws about 91.6 amps at 14.4 volts, to be that high it would have to be at full volume. i'd probably test it out and see, easiest way is to observe the headlights, otherwise use a voltmeter. you dont want to have the electrical system drop below 12V, if that happens you need to consider a capacitor, battery, alt, and gauge of wire. dont know if you've done that without more information though. what i'm saying is it may not matter how many amps the alt is if it doesnt provide enough power at idle to overcome the load from the stereo etc.

just remember that your alt doesn't put out the rated power at idle, generaly if you have say a 200 amp alt it won't be able to put out that much power till around 3500 rpm

Alright, well i have the big three already, and i cant find a place around here that has optima's at all, and yes i know that alternators dont put out their rated output at idle, but if its 94~ amps that my @!#$ would be drawing at full volume (which i dont have it on a lot of the time for obvious reasons...) but i want to be sure it can keep up when i do decide to do that...but i guess i got some saving to do because the stock one is definately not going to work...i think i messed it up already....but what would the average output at idle be on a good quality alt, because 3500 rpm...i dont drive aroudn that high i dont think, i do like 50km/h in town in 4th...thats gotta be lower than 3500 i would be guessing, i dont have a tac sadly, stupid standards with no tac...but yeah, thanks if you can get me more info....oh yeah and bout my wiring just incase you have more questions...i have a 2 guage running to the trunk where it splits into 2 4 guage wires to my sub amps, and into an 8 guage wire for my speaker amp, then i got 4 guage grounds off the sub amps, and an 8 guage ground off the speaker amp, i got 2 guage big three, and just some normal battery...with 4 posts...if that matters lol, helps when i was doing the big three tho

most hi amp alternators put out there max at 1500-2000 rpm's not 3500.

the reason why is because most suto's @!#$ around 3300-3500rpms and dbdrag, usica etc will only yet you rev to 1000-2000 roms.
