Amp cutting out

Is it possible for an amp to start cutting out if the gain is turned to high. I just tweaked it up a notch yeesterday afternoon, and started playing with the audio controls on the deck, and then it started kicking off and then on again for a couple seconds. Just want to make sure it's a gain issue, and not a ground or something else. Please advise.

depends on the settings on the deck you played with.

i would try cutting your front speakers out for a minute, just use the sub. leave the gain exactly as it is. if you can hear the sub at all volume levels, it isnt the amp thats having the problem. it is your front speakers producing cancelling frequencies.

when i turned the volume up, it sounded like crap cause i had no bass. i had this problem before i put in my cross over, but it is solved now. a local shop thought my amp was cutting out too, by the description i gave them, and try to sell me a bigger wire kit.

if the sub can be heard when the fronts are cut off, and it doesnt sound like it is cutting out, then undo what ever you did to your deck settings.

if this isnt your problem, it could verry well be a problem with your amp. it could be going into thermal protection, or a ground problem. if it is a ground, i expect you will blow a fuse soon, or blow something else.

p.s. - the gain is not a volume control knob. it increase the signal output. the gain should be set with the volume on the deck at your average listening level, or set with an multi-meter.

Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!

Thanks. The amp is only powering the 6x9's, no subs. I need the trunk. I'll try that and see what happens.
