This is my post over on sounddomain about my problem with installing a HU in a 00 Cavailer. Can you plese tell me if you did red to red and yellow to yellow like Murph says if you used that Metra kit.
If you taped into a ign wire are the fuse box thats okay on replying
I really im so lost on this
i've installed about 10 HU's in pre 00 cars and 2 in 00 up 1 being mine and hers.
If you can lend a hand
Thanks so much
Kyle
Go buy the wiring harness that will relocate your old stereo. You can hide it in the rear wheel well. Makes things a WHOLE lot easier.
i installed the same thing into an 02 cav. worked fine for me. i just matched the colors up and all was good. no need to tap into any other wiring.

i don't recall, it was two years ago when i installed it. was an alpine deck, but that doesn't make any difference
I'm thinking i bought the harness at circuit city, so whatever brand they carry is the one it probably is, (metra or scoshe, don't recall)
is red on the harness your 12v constant maybe?

I went to CC, got the harness and tapped the 12volt constant into the windshield wiper fuse. Check the sticky at the top of the forum. I used Lenkos instructions and have had no issues at all.
Good Luck!
All the wires will all line up with the metra harness except for the red ( ignition controlled turn on wire). If you hook up the red wire on the head unit to the red wire on the harness, you'll notice that when it plugs into the car harness the red won't hook into anything ( no pin in that location) The red wire that comes off the head unit needs to be (like Mike said) run to the wiper fuse, thats the easiest one. But for sure check out Lenkos instructions. He did an awesome job. Sticky at the top of the page. Think Lundis may even have detailed instructions. Someone made up a full set start to finish with pics and all. I have an 04 worked perfect. Good luck with it.
Oh ya I didn't use the reloction harness. I got rid of my stock head unit and chimes. I think it was the harness for trackers, etc. Think thats in the post too.

he doesn't have the tracker harness. he has the harness with the chime module. doesn't require any tapping of wires.

ok, i think the question should be pasted over here...nobody seems to read the link before they reply

I was installing a New HU on a Friends 2000 Chevrolet Cavailer.
I was using a Metra GMRC-01 Harness with the module that retains the door chimes and gives you a 12+ for the new HU.
Well i read the half ass instrustions they gave
And this is for word for word
1 The Gmrc-01 Harness contains four wires,Yellow,Red,and Pink. The pink wire is already terminated and should not be connected to anythin else
2,Connect the Yellow wire to the Yellow wire on the supplied 24 way harness and to the aftermarket radios constand lead
3,Connect red wire only to the ign leads form the aftermarket radio
4,Connect Black to the aftermarket radios ground wire
5,Mount the GMRC-01 in a location where the internal speaker will be heard
6,connect the reamining wires between the GMRC-01 and the aftermarket radio using the final wiring connections instructions described on page 4
Now i wired it up this way
(Red)12volt ign/Acc from the metra harness to the yellow +12v main on the Aftermarket radio harnes.
(Yellow)12volt Batt/memory to the + 12v acces wire on the new aftermaket harness
(Black) Ground
I went to plug it in and nothing at all the car starts fine no codes are anything,i know the radio fuse isit blown because my inside lights are connect with the radio fuse.
My dash lights come on and everyting also so i don't think its a big 40amp from under the hood.
Also when i pluged it in and chimed and then when i started the car it did its thing either for 3-5 times.
Also when ever i tryed to press the function buton to turn on the HU it sounds like its trying to start up but dies.I really im lost at this point, all my wires where soldered and shrink wraped.
Did i hook it up right are do i need to tap into the 12+volt ign wire with the acc wire together.
also could the Data-bus be causeing this since i disconnect the neg terminal before takeing the dash off so it might have locked up,i really don't want to have to put the stock one back in for her to get it unlocked and working.
If you've installed one of these please help

I was under the impression that the whole point of a wiring harness was so you don't have to go to the trouble of tapping into a fuse.
Some people on this forum claim that you don't need to tap a fuse, you just unplug the factory deck and plug the harness and new deck in, and others claim that you have to tap some wires. So which is it?
When using the RC01 or the OS01 modules all you have to do is match up the wire colors (red to red, yellow to yellow, black to black, etc) to the harness on your deck, plug it onto the stock plug, and stuff the box in your dash. I'm not sure why you're hooking the red to yellow and yellow to red.

i just used a gmco2 by periphial and had no problems all the wires go together. I have an 02 and a jvc avx2. no problems no check engine, codes, or light mess u works like a champ. I know most people dont want to spend the extra $60 for it but you see so many problems with the people who decide to go the cheaper route and somehow it end up hurting them in the long run. a buddy of mine cut his wires to hook up his radio and now he got a check engine light that he has had since he first had his car

the 00 and up j's do not have an ignition wire in the factory harness. they are turned on by the computer. The tapping of the wire is when using the simple harness... it requires you to supply a switched 12v source.
Their are also harness's made for the j's that do not require you to do that, but they are more expensive.

just get an add-a-circuit at autozone and plug it in then run the wire to the red wire in the 15 dollar metra harness from circuit city and it will work fine.....
glad to see you got it working the VRX755VD are pretty sweet. plus it is a touch screen. i have installed alot of those the last few weeks in all sorts of cars. me personally i stick with jvc i have the new avx2 but i wont knock on clarion. now with that 5.1 you really should look into getting a center channel speaker from clarion and install that. we put one in a blazer and it sounds phenominial
i think it is model srk5 1/2 din if i am not mistaken another thing cool on the stereo is the fact that the bottom part of it has a magnet on the face plate. enjoy the stereo
