Heya, I've got a decent stereo system IMO, but because I'm addicted to bass, I'm wondering what my next upgrade should be. I've got 4 ga. wires so almost anything is possible, I'm looking for cheap, yet good upgrades, preferably small (like I have a 160w amp, something like 600w or more). Here's my basic system:
Jensen 50x4 CD/MP3 Player
Older Kenwood amp (160w RMS @ 2 ohms)
KFC-W310 10" 4ohm Kenwood Subwoofers in plexiglass ported box
4 stock speakers
Pretty much, my subs are underpowered. they're 600w max total, and they're running on 160w RMS. I'm thinking a bigger amp, maybe 600w, or should I go with an audiobahn amp I found for $189 USD which is 800w RMS? Or should I go with bigger subs? (by bigger, I mean like 500w RMS instead of 300W Max) Or maybe a better deck?
I'm satisfied with my deck right now. I've got stock speakers in my car still (7" 15w rear speakers, 3 1/2" front speakers) and they take the deck's power easily. I want a new amp definitely, but maybe a pair of different subs would sound better with my current amp? I was looking at a pair of 10" Rockford Punch subs (rated at something like 500w RMS). I want to use my ported box, because it sounds great compared to my sealed one.
first get a 600w RMS amp, that gives you headroom to upgrade your subs. next get better soundstage up front by buying component speakers. then get a 4 channel amp to GET OFF OF DECK POWER! deck power is about 12 watts RMS in reality. get a 50w RMS X4 amp and get yourself some quality sound. just bass, with stock speakers, and deck power = grossness.
yeah, everyone recommends amplified components for better SQ. I should probably look to upgrading from stock speakers too, instead of the 15w rear speakers and 10w fronts. on ikesound.com (not sure if its a good site to buy from because of the outrageously cheap stuff there) I found a nice little set of speakers 60w RMS for front, 100w RMS for rear, and then a 75w RMS x4 amp. Thinkin about that after I'm done with the subs.
well with my current system I have to crank down the treble on the speakers so my ears dont hurt when I crank the music. later on when I feel that I want more SQ with the bass, I'll go amplified components, right now my deck does fine for what I need.
