Ive got a 4 ohm 15" Kicker solo L7 hooked upto a 500/1 JL amp i know this is only running half of its potential power (1000 rms) instead of buying a 2000 watt amp and bridging it down to 2 ohms can i just buy another 500/1 and hook up each voicecoil to one amp and get the full 1000 watts of power?
You could, but you have to have each amp properly adjusted or else you're going to cook voice coils.
Try a Hifonics Titan Series amp. I have the D-class Titan pushing a 12' L5 in a ported enclosure and it sounds sweet. It supplies the sub with 800 watts(RMS) continuous at 2 ohms.
I believe the Hifonics I have is a 10005D and it is stable at 1 ohm w/ 1100 watts (RMS) i think.
These amps arent that bad on the wallet either.

BTW you should ALWAYS run a DVC either parallel or series. Never single. The voicecoils will eventually fight each other too much and end up frying.
And Solobarics perform best when the coils are ran together with one amp.

OK so will it burn a coil using this method or am I safe? the only reason i want to do this is to save myself from having to buy a pricey 2000 watt rms amp just seemed like a more logical way of getting the full 1000 rms and why would i have to tune them just right? wouldnt it be putting out exactly 500 per channel hence the 1000 rms?
anyone got a better explanation for me before i go and buy another 500/1?
you can get a 2ed 500/1 and run one for each coil but you have to gain match the amp's to they put out the same amount of volt's. if you don't them you can fry the coil's but if done right your be fine.
if i was you ill sell the 500/1 and just get a new amp alot less head ach and you can always upgrade later.
what type of box do you have the L7 in?
ive got it in a huge ported box dont know exact demensions, the thing pounds with just the 1 500/1 though
I ran an amp per coil for well over a year and had no problems. then ran four amps to two dvc 15s and had no problems. and im about to do it again with an amp per coil. its just not for beginners. and takes up some time to set up.
