I need help!!!! Amp question
Thursday, December 29, 2005 9:54 PM
I have 2 8" audiobahn subs (alum8p) they are dual 6 ohm with 350 rms, 700 max per sub... I was told to wire them in a parallel which would give me a 1.5 ohm load. So if i got a mono amp that is 800rms at 2 ohms like the audiobahn A8000T, is that too much power, or can you set the outputs low enough so they wont blow the subs?

p.s. I am an audio noob so any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

It's possible to blow them with that amp. Power is not continous. If you keep the volume, or gain at the amp, down low enough then you'll never blow the subs. Turning it all the way up would be a quick way to fry them.

So should I look for an amp that runs 600-700 rms at 2 ohms?

Well...you can as long as you know what you're doing as far as gain eq. settings on the amp. Plus I think it depends on what amp your are using. I wouldn't go lower than the speced. impedence on a sony explode amp unless you plan on keeping the gain all the way down.
