python 881xp remote start questions about install.
Saturday, December 03, 2005 2:43 PM
I bought/got installed/etc a python 881XP car alarm/keyless entry/remote start system from circuit city.

I found 2 quirks in the system and want to know a little more information about them. When I asked the installer about this, he said it might just be a chevy/cavalier thing and probably nothing he can do about it .... which I think is total BS.

1) I have the LCD keychain/pager. Lets say I remote start my car (red button/astricks button twice). I can get in, put the key in and turn it, press the break and go about my business. the doors lock like they should, but the icon/remote start indicator on my keychain does not turn off. I can drive around, get to my destination, turn the car off, get out, and the icon on my LCD keychain still says the car is started (exhaust coming out of tail pipe). The icon does not turn off until I arm the alarm. This shouldn't happen. the icon should go away as soon as the doors lock (mentioned earlier!). Anyone know how to fix this, what causes this, or is it a 'chevy thing' like the installer said?

2) Lets say i'm driving around, get to my destination, but want to leave the car running, and take the key out. With the car running, the shifter in park, I can 'remote start' it (red button/ astricks twice), this allows me to take the key out of the ignition, and the car stay running. now i can get out, arm the alarm, go and run my errand, come back, disarm the alarm, get in, and when I Turn the key all the way, the starter grinds. the alarm is supposed to have the "anti-grind" feature or whatever.

when I normally remote start the car, get in and turn the key all the way, it does NOT grind. only when i leave the car running will it grind..

any ideas? I know there are some professional installers on this board, and it won't be the first time I would have came here for advice/help because the circuit city guys didn't know how to do something... trust me, i'm not bashing circuit city at all, i work there. The guys in our roadshop are ... inexperienced, i guess..

Number 1 sounds like something is either not working or not hooked up right with the brain. When the key is insterted, the remote start is deactivated, and it should send a signal to the remote so that the symbol turns off, just guessing I would say it's a problem with the system brain or remote. I can tell you for sure it's not a "chevy thing"

2)Not sure what to tell you on this one, I haven't done done anything with an "anti-grind" feature. Not too many people want to spend the money for the higher quality alarms and remote starts around here.

I know why...

Theres an option in the owners manual to change the setting of the remote to check on the status of the car like every 3 seconds... DEI has it turned off from the factory to save on battery life.

You have to go through the book- find that section and activate that feature.. This way, it will tell you whenever the remote start disengages like a second after you step on the brake... It will also warn you instantly if the shock sensor is set off etc.. once its activated, you'll see the little antenna flash on the remote every few seconds.

The second one I beleive is in the programming of the unit.... The feature where you can leave the car running while taking the key out is generally meant as a turbo timer feature- I just don't think its in the programming of the unit to watch out for the anti-grind when you return to the vehicle..

Just don't turn the key forward all the way when the car is running-- its a bad habit.

I tried it in a friends car who has the exact same alarm (don't we all have it at circuit city?! lol..), and his didn't grind when I turned the key all the way.

I know it's not a good habbit, but it happens accidently sometimes..

also, it's not the short run/turbo timer, it's called "valet take-over", it's whole intention is to leave the car running for a short period while being able to take the key out.

ok, one last question, and i'll leave this thread to die lol.

How do I make the siren full volume? I read you have to cut something somewhere on the siren itself.. more info?

there are 2 wires on the siren a black and a black/white you can set the tone by cutting them just read the manuel and it will tell you

if i remember right, you cut a wire for soft chirp, so look at the siren to find out if a wire has been cut, and reconnect. red devil said pretty much everything else i would have said...
