hey guys, i have a 12 inch L7 at home not in yet, but ive been reading about the new type r's...are they better? how bout for alpine decks, does anyone have the 55 or 53? anything lower and still like it? i read that the quality was cut a lot this year. any opinions/experiences on any of this would be appreciated!
1. Yes they new R's pound hard and sound fantastic. visit realm of excursion.com and just watch some of the type r vids.
2. Your choice really, you could sell that l7, buy some r's and have lots of cash to spare and invest somewhere else, for the most part the l7 = spl driver, AND I know someone will argue with me about that.
3. I use the 9835, last years 55, VERY sturdy deck, sounds fantastic. Only issues people have are the glide bars and rotary motors for the face, BUT Alpine addressed this. The lowest i would go with Alpine nowadays is the 51. ANY lower = no go./ Sounds just like most other decks on the market.

If you want decent SQ AND want good SPL I'd stay away from Kicker L7s all together. THey hit hard, I'll agree, but the surrounds on the current design have these ridges in the corners that tend to invert at high peak and restricts excursion limits. I'd sa of the two the Type Rs are the better choice, but I'd recommend an Image Dynamics IDMAX or an MTX 7000 series driver for the best of both worlds. They'll handle a ton of power and sound really nice. I just replaced the Polk Momo 15 in my car with an MTX 7000 series 15, and I'm hittin about 143dB.
