I have a clarion 1000watt monoblock amp and it keeps blowing my voice coils? any suggestions on 10" subs that i will sound good that my amp isn't over powering?
I guess the first thing we need to know is whether your 1000 watt amp puts out 1000 watts rms or 1000w peak (big difference). Before anyone can recommend anything, what does it put out in RMS?
If it's 1000wrms, I can suggest a few good SPL subs (just from personal experience - others can tell you of many, many more good subs that would work well). Most of these can be made to sound pretty well if that's your bag:
Digital Designs 3500 series or better. Their track record in DBdrag speaks for itself, and they don't sound terrible, either (in the right enclosure).
Mmats Dreadnaughts or Juggernauts. Simply amazing.
Orion H2s
MTX 9500s
Just about anything RE sells
Treo
Elemental Designs
Alpine type-xs; the TCAB guys have shown that the type-rs can take that kind of abuse as well.
There are dozens of subs to chose from that can handle 1000wrms, and I only mentioned ones that I've seen take 1000rms (or much more). If you are blowing voicecoils constantly, it may not be due to overpowering, but from clipping (gains turned up too high). Whatever you buy next, make sure to set your gains properly to ensure that only clean power goes to your subs. Provided your gains are set properly, you should never kill any of the subs I listed.

Ah, if you read the title of this thread it says 1000 watts rms.
its exactly like one of these, i can't find the specs cause it is an older amp...
clarion amp
see if anyone can help me more now?
The reason why i want 10's is because i have a custom box for my car

and i still want them to fit. It is built to typical 10" specs...
thanks guys.. i need all the help i can get.. I'm not really looking for spl, but sound quality

My bad

I guess I've gotten a little too used to seeing people saying 1000wmax (which is probably closer to 300wrms). I was also going on the impression that he was looking for just 1-10" that could handle that much power (sheesh, I must have been half asleep last night).
Jrs Z, for 500wrms/sub I would seriously look at the Alpine type-Rs, or RE SEs. The type-rs are probably the cheapest sub I mentioned, have pretty good SQ, will hit hard, and work really well in relatively small ported enclosures. Most of the subs I mentioned earlier run on the expensive/very expensive side of things, and some are full-blown SPL subs.
Unless you can get a wicked deal, save your money and go alpine or RE. You won't be disappointed.
