How to extract AC3 audio from a DVD?
Wednesday, November 16, 2005 7:25 AM
Hi! I know it's not EXACTLY audio & electronics, but I think it'd be great if the sound of DVDs of live concerts could be played in my car. I have Diana Krall Live at the Montreal Jazz Festival, it's in .avi, and the quality of the sound is amazing ( as well as the picture ). I can play it with any player, so it's no DivX, and when I right click on it to get the properties, it tells me that it is AC3 Audio.

I downloaded several audio convertors, and of the few that worked, the .wave file extracted had piss-poor sound, no matter which settings I chose. How do I extract the full richness of the audio track out of it?

What could be nice also is a program that would allow me to separate the one-huge track in several smaller ones, exactly where I want, like between songs.

Thanks a lot!!!!! I know I'm probably not posting this in the best place, but any help is extremely appreciated

Use virtualdub. You can extract an .mp3 from it. Virtualdub is also freeware

Lanman: Thanks for the hint, however virtualdub doesn't recognize the format of the video. I'm pretty sure it's DivX though.

Revvvin87: Does it this mean it's impossible to put DVD audio onto a cd?

Cheers,

DVD audio can be put onto a CD, however the player would need to support Dolby Digital/DTS to read it.

AC3 is 96khz 24 bit, 2-6 channel. if you rip that to play in your car as an audio CD the best it will be is 44khz 16 bit stereo.

Download an application called videoinspector that will tell you the video and audio format http://www.kcsoftwares.com

an app like sonic foundry should be able to pull out any audio data from the video file without changing the quality.

This is what i would use but then you would have to completely play the dvd and let the program do its job. Its called total recorder and it records everything that goes over ur sound card. You need the pro edition or else it wont let u record without little beeps in it. You can either buy it or "do something else"
If you decide to use this and have troubles just ask and I can most likely help u figure it out. Just save it as .wav and then covert that file into mp3 if u want, or just leave it wav.
I use it to put tracks on my mp3 player that aren't allowed to because of DRM.
