Single Voice Coil, Dual Voice Coil.

Single voice coil, for example, 4 ohms the amp sees 4ohm when connected.

Dual voice coil, 4 ohms per coil, can be bridged so the amp sees 2 ohms and in most cases, delivers more power to the speaker.

2 4ohm DVC speakers can be bridged to 1 ohm... overloading some amps but providing lotsa power to amps that are capable of handling it.

the only difference is your wiring options. a dual voice coil subwoofer will give you more options

you don't "bridge" a sub..you bridge multiple channels on an amp.

for wiring your subs...look here.

yeah, bridged was poor terminology... I was typing in a hurry.

The 2 coils can be wired in parallel or series so that the amp sees a lower or higher resistance.

Only powering one voice coil is a bad idea.

sometimes, 1 prong will be smaller than the other. smaller prong is usually negative. Most of the time, it's stamped in the piece the prongs are attached, or marked on the basket of the woofer above the prongs.

isn't dvc a little bit stronger than svc because it is a layered voice coil?

Go Premium, it builds character!

Maybe a terminal will be black, then the other red? Red would be + Positive. Now. you must run both voice coils or you will fry.. something.

usually DVC subs just take more power for the fact that they are all around (usually) nicer subs.
