Need Recommendations

Ok, i have a pretty beefy audio setup about to be installed. All Pheonix gold Xenon Series stuff....2 12" subs....component speakers all around, seperate amps for speakers and sub...gonna be running quite a few electronics such as screens, neons, and eventually a computer, so i want to do everything right the first time...now....What do you think i should go with? I wanted to relocate my battery to the trunk, and possibly use a 2nd battery...but i'm trying to decide whether to use a second battery, or run a cap. Also, what do i need to hooking all my stuff up? For 2 amps, i only need 1 amp wirring kit...correct? I'm i'm relocating my battery, do i only need 1 relocation kit or 2 (if i run a 2 battery setup)? Please provide some insight for this mobile electronic n00by.

Thanks

u need 1 amp kit but u'll need a power wire spliter and for bat relocation.. it depends on how the batteries connect to the car, top post or side mount... or both.. if it has both u can get away with one kit just make sure the kit mounts to whatever battery connection up front that isnt in use

A Cap is good to have to even out the "dirty" power coming from when you're car is running. If you plan on running a bunch of stuff with your car off, a CAP won't make or even really store power for that use and you should get a second battery. If you're going to have the car running when you run the stuff you don't need a second bat. But you should upgrade your Alt to a High Output and upgrade your wiring.

depends on the amp kit. Amp kits are just wires, ends, and sometimes distribution blocks. you should run a 2 or 0 gauge wire from the bat to your amps, then use a distribution block and have eother 2 or 4 gauge going from the block to the amps. This is good for large amps, since I don't know how many amps you're pulling this may be over kill.

you only need 1 relocation kit, again it is just a bunch of wires, some ends and sometimes a distro block. Some also come with a battery box. You run your wires to the first battery and then just branch off to the second, the wire run from the first to the second is gene4raly short but the best way is to get terminals that have spots for 2 large gauge wires so it makes connecting the second battery easier.

what kind of high output alternator do you think i need? The guy at the audio shop i was at said cavaliers come with decent alternators compared to many cars, and mine should be fine. What do you think? for the most part, i will be mostly listening to music with the car turned on.

it depends on what all you plan on running, then add in headlights, interior lights if you ever open your door, misc current draws, add all that up and add about 15-20% and that would be the target output of your alt. Also, your alt rating is normaly at 2500rpm's so it won't be putting out the same power ideling in a parking lot.

i'f hook up everything, then see how much power your actually drawing, and then upgrade to what you need.

How can you tell how much power you are drawing?

Ammeter, or a multimeter capable or handling high current.

where would you check how much ur drawing? The powerline going to the amp?

You might consider getting a smaller alternator pulley, which would spin the alternator faster, creating more current. Of course, you might need a new belt. But that's no biggie. :-)
