Opinions on Audiobahn?
Thursday, October 27, 2005 9:53 AM
I'm thinking about doing a complete Audiobahn setup in my wife's car HU to subs and everything in between.

I'd like educated opinions on Audiobahn since I've never used any of their gear before. I've mostly used Pioneer, JL audio, and Kenwood.

Here is what I'm looking at doing:

HU: A1250N
Front: ACIS63
Rear: Nothing
Subs: ALUM12N x3
Box: CHB12TE
Sub Amp: A18001DT
Comp Amp: A2502DP (not sure, would like more power@4ohms)
I'd also like some sort of sound processor

I have no real point for doing this. I don't plan to compete in anything, I just like loud (!) clean systems.

My cousin is an audiobahn rep so i know alot about the amps threw him, basically this is what he told me,its his job to inform people to sell them but family is a diff. story.....
The subs are loud and thats about it,not going to give you the cleanest bass but you will hit higher spl numbers, personally i dont like there subs.....headunits are iffy, theyll give you great options like mp3,satelite ready etc. but performance wise your better off with an alpine or pioneer, amps are also iffy, there lower end amps are not that great for the money, there higher end high current amps, digital amps,ab mosfet amps are excellent amps but are very high in price......i have some audiobahn amps/eq's and line drivers simply because i get them for next to nothing because of my cousin,i love there amps there definately nice,i also have 5 of the ald28t 9volt line drivers which make a HUGE difference ho0ked up to my digital and hybrid amps, i also have two of the 30band eq's and there awesome ,but if your going to pay retail for them you might be better off w/ an mtx/alpine or something in that line......but depending on the price i'd say go for them,im not bad mouthing audiobahns amps, they are nice but alot of the time you pay for all the flashy flames and lights more than anything.....if you get it for cheap id say go for it

Audiobahn is like Bose: people buy it for the name and to impress other tone-deaf people with how cool it looks.

thats not the best comparison, bose has some sick home theather systems....but then again bose could prolly put out some low end stuff and people would still buy it just cuz of the name.....but what manufacturer doesnt do that?

Go into a dedicated home theatre store and say that and see if you walk out alive. ;]

His comparison was excellent. Bose is perceived as great because it is so popular, but in reality it is in the middle-to-low spectrum of the home theatre world.

NOt an audiobahn fan at all. MY friend has 2 flame compression "(80 series), built for "spl".. what a joke, 400 per driver and they have a hard time competing with lower end subs. Not to mention the horrible sq side of it. He used to have a amp from them as well, the thing went south about 5 months in... got it fixed on warrenty, and hasb een sittingi n his basement since. Buy it if you feel you need the bling bling......BUT seriously go elsewhere. It will not only save you both time and possibly money, but your ears as well.

if your trying to keep it all one brand in the car i suggest alpine, Kenwood Excelon, Pioneer Premier. if your willing to run stuff that isn't all the same brand i suggest elemental designs (thier amps have a 3 year transferable warranty), re audio, Infinity speakers, Image Dynamics. thoes are a few off the top of my head that u can get some pretty decent stuff for a good price.

alot of my friends have audiobahn and thats what made me go to all JL. the subs are great and really loud but everything else sucks to me! Especially the amps!

Prices:

AUDIOBAHN A1250N $186
AUDIOBAHN ACIS63 $259
AUDIOBAHN ALUM12N $140
AUDIOBAHN CHB12TE $86
AUDIOBAHN A2502DP $289
AUDIOBAHN A18001DT $549

The idea was to have a matching system. I like Alpine's amps and subs, but I've never liked the HUs for some reason. I've never used any Pioneer subs or amps except some cheap 10s many years ago.

I'm actually going with eD in my car eventually.....

I'm going to have to do something for her (and to maintain my own sanity) soon. She has a RF Headunit, Boss 4x6s, RF 6x9s, and a 12" Kenwood sub on an Urban Audio Works amp. All this came with the car. The HU won't take CDs anymore and the 6x9s WAY over power the 4x6s. Basicly her car sucks hairy donkey balls.

If you gonna go alpine check out ikesound.com There alot cheeper and still carry a 1 year warranty on all there alpine products. I ordered a 9855, Type S 6.5s and 6x9s and a 4ch amp. There shipping is slow but its worth the wait to save alot of money. Also i have ordered from them 3 times and have yet to have any major problem.

Thanks
Jeremy

So does Etronics.com, and they are cheaper by $15, $25 if you include the shipping. Etronics.com also ships quick and I haven't had any issues with anything from them yet.

Ok Being an Audiobahn man i have to jump in this one (Ducks all the stuff being throw at him)...

I have ( 2 ) Immortal 12s
with a A2300HCT amp pushing them

( 2 ) AMD50Q 5.25 mids
( 2 ) AT61 19mm Tweets

with a A4401T amp pushing them

I also have a AX303P crossover

my deck is an Alpine 9831

I have no probelms with my audiobahn products.

Well just a few.... My stock 105 amp alt can not handle my amp.
( will be fixed soon)

and other problem is my wallet is very light now..

I would subjest that you read about the products you buy before you get them.

Some audiobahn subs are for ported boxes only and if you put in a sealed box you will not get what you pay for.

I would say go for it..

ive had audiobahn subs, loud but not clean, ive never had a problem w/ there amps, but then again ive never owned one of there cheap ones u go to circuit city and get,i have two of my mtx 9500's running off a a1500hct(2krms@1ohm) i recently got two more 9500's and i plan on getting another 1500hct,i can get the amp for$225 and it retails for over $1,000,so again u may not like audiobahn but my experience w/ there amps has been fine and the price i pay for them i cant beat it,altho im thinkin about upgrading to two mtx ta92001(3,000rms@1) but than id prolly need to throw 4 more subs in that set up or turn the gains waaaay down.....i wouldnt bad mouth audiobahn so much, some people have bad experiences w/ them,my alpine type-x recently blew running off my mtx81001 but im not going to bad mouth alpine, especially since there covering the sub for free, audiobahn does make some garbage stuff but some of there stuff is go0d in my opinion but again u do pay extra for the flashy lights n flames......atleast u werent considering jensen......

I helped my frined Sam with his ALL AUDIOBAHN set-up, IT IS VERY AFFORDABLE, look at eBay. Audiobahn is 60-70% off on eBay.

Anyway, Sam use to run all JL, but doesn't wanna spend the kinda money it takes do do all W7's and JL amps, so he went with Audiobahn to save money and look good.

He has 2 1,800watt sub amps, a 400watt 4channel for his 4 doors, and a 200watt 2channel for the rear hatch at car shows.

So that is 3,600watts RMS to the Subs - 4 12 Flame Q's
and 600 watts RMS to the mids and highs

Bottom line, mine with 4 8W7's, all JL amps and components sounds NOT ONLY better, but is also louder to your ear and on the SPL mic at my work.
I have 1,450 watts total.
1,000 to my subs, and 450 to my mids and highs.
My friend's ride

His system looks sweet and loud, but that is really all it is good for. Not really a great sounding set-up, but the crowd of people at shows love it.

Here is a quote from Sam on a local forum we are on.

You know i do think that JL is overpriced but i will admit, james 4 8's is one of the loudest systems i have ever heard (daily listening that is) and trust me, i ran Jl audio for years and i do not have it anymore because audiobahn is the shizzznit. but if you have the cash and you want a good sq/spl speaker then i wouldnt hate on jl. but if your looking for a awesome sub and your on a tie budget, then i would go with the alum subs from audiobahn.

the nice thing about jl, is you do not need an ass load of power to make it bang.

ive never been a big fan of audiobahn, im a huge fan of their mareketing department though because they did a great job of getting their product out to the masses and such. that problaby has to do with all the bling bling chrome though. i think if they spent as much time on r&d as they did on making their equipment look pretty that they could have a great product. but i think their more into selling it. ive talked to several dealers that have dealt with them and they told me they have seen more audiobahn equipment come back for repairs compared to other brands, but that could also could be contributed to the fact that allot of the people that buy their product, just seem the chrome and buy it not knowing how to work and audio system.

See that's the misconception. While he may think he is putting out 4,200 watts, because audiobahn almost blatently lies about their ratings his is probably only doing about 2500

Pioneer premier is a joke, its just an extended waranty on the exact same product with the "premier" name where is should say pioneer....when i bought my deck i had the choice of 2 exact same ones DEH-P80MP or the DEH-P8MP(same thing except the 8MP said premier where the other one said pioneer) so i went with the 80MP I found this stupid and looked around on the net and turns out they do this for the majority of thier gear, why make a new name for the same thing with a longer warranty :S

I like my Audiobahn 15" in my sealed box. It hits pretty hard and loooow. It is 500watts RMS and is just below hurting my ears on some songs. Compared to a friend who had 1500 watts from an MTX amp to: 2-12" Polk MOMOs, 3-12" Alpine Type Rs, and 2-12" Infiniti Kappa Perfects (he likes to change subs a lot); they did not sound THAT much louder or cleaner, with exceptions.

Where they twice as loud? I do not think so. They hurt my one ear almost constantly but didnt sound like it was blazingly louder unless you were OUTSIDE of the car.

For what I wanted, cheap and good, I got my amp, sub, and built my own box for $300. It is good but setup like crap.

I LOVED my front and rear audiobahn speakers, top of the line, but I never had an amp on them. I would say go with audiobahn's top of the line speakers and a natural sound sub and the various amps and you will be pleased.

For the record, when I buy my tC I will dump my entire system and go with JL, MB Quart, Mckintosh, etc.

your right in some aspects,i think audiobahn would be alot better if they didnt try to make there amps so flashy, but as far as what they do rms wise there pretty accurate......i know my 1500hct does pretty damn close to 2,000rms@1ohm.....i wouldnt low ball audiobahn there not that bad,but maybe if they lost the chrome n l.e.d.s u could prolly go from paying $700 for a 1200rms to maybe somewhere around $499...
