Alright I'm not a big audio guy, but I do need something more than my car offers.
I'm used to Pioneer decks, I've had a ton, but recently I went with a JVC, which I ended up trading for some things and ended up with a Sony. I've hated both of them.
So for my new deck, I plan on getting another Pioneer.
Now for the speakers?
My stock 6x9's are toast, I need a definate upgrade, but I also want some nice bass response, on a budget. Recommendations?
My 4x6's are the $50 Pioneers, they're alright, I've gone through a set of them, and they don't offer the treble I'd like. I don't want to mod anything, so having replacement 4x6's are nice, but maybe I need tweeters of some sort? Also I cannot filter bass out of these as I'd like to. I know they make such filters though, do these work?
Once again all on a budget. Thanks for any advice!
Ikesound.com Check out there alpine Type S 6*9s and 4*6s. Also alpine has some nice headunits like the 9851.
Jeremy
yeah joe i would try out alpine type-s speakers. bass blockers also do work to filter out the bass up from.
Ikesound.com is legit? Awesome prices.
I think I'm going to go with an Alpine deck, so everything matches. Type-S 4x6's with the bass blockers, and the Type-S 6x9's.
I assume the deck will power the Type-S speakers correctly?
yes
you might want to add a set of tweeters up in the mirror plates , youll be alot happier with the sound
also adding a 6 1/2 to the front is pretty easy , you just have to make a plate out of 3/4" mdf
I agree on the 6.5s in the front, I bought adapters with my speakers, and I couln't be happier... much better sound, you would have to spend twice as much on 4x6's to get half the sound quality... also, they still fit behind the door panel with no bulging, so you don't have to cut the door panels... but you should do what you think is best
^ Yeah I saw a set that didn't clear the door panels, where did you get yours?
Thanks guys for all the help!
Look out on Ebay for some decent component speakers (6.5) for the front, a decent 10" sub in a sealed box that you'll do urself, and a 4ch amp to drive it all. You'll end up with graet sound ( depending a lot on how the install is done though). Get a pioneer deck, they go for cheap on ebay, brand new.
Sndsgood made me realized that you don't need rear speakers. Rear speakers are for rear passengers, and all they do is throw your soundstage through the window. If your speakers are correctly positioned up front and you have a sub to run the bass, with xovers correctly set on the deck, then you should be alright.
It'll cost you a LOT LESS than you might think, probably just about as much as a 4speaker setup would run you.
Yes ikesound is legit. There shipping isnt the fastest though. Usually takes them 2-3 days to get your order shipped out.
Thanks
Jeremy
Anyone had to return defective product to ikesound? Most of the stuff they sell has no manufacture's wrranty becuase they aren't authorized distributors. I'm curious how quickly they take care of issues.

Say no to deck power and bass blockers. Especially if you're "upgrading".
If you're going to all the trouble of replacing your speakers, it's not that much more work to run real power to them with an amplifier. A decent small 4-channel amplifier will cost around $90-$120.
The amp will have a much better built in "bass blocker" that won't upset your tweeter.
I'll second the Alpine Type-S drop-ins since you said you weren't interested in fabricating anything.
As for an amp, Profile makes inexpensive, entry-level amplifiers that perform decently for the money.

yeah they have gone down hill a lot kinda after they got rid of free shipping 2 or 3 years ago
i have the alpine type-s 4x6's and they wouldn't fit without modification....i got em to fit though. with some bass blockers they sound pretty decent. still saving to get my components though
MB Quart 4x6 rock! I have a set I just took out(going with component set and custom door panels). But I really liked them. MB Quart speakers are sh!t.
Joe -
do you like how mine sounds?
I can get you into a nice Kenwood Deck that has built in crossovers for your speakers. What I like about Kenwood and Kenwood eXcelon decks is you can turn off their system E's equalizers and use the Bass/Mid/Treble to your liking, without going through a bunch of Menus.
No need for Bass Blockers. And I know you want good sound witout the weight of extra amps and such. So Dynamat for your doors, and rear deck, and Kenwood eXcelon 4x6's up front, and eXcelon 6x9's out back. I garuntee you will be happy.
Let me know, I'll get you a price. And if you want to, I'll help you Dynamat it and install it all so it works PERFECTLY. You can come by on a Tuesday, or Wednesday and we can install in all in about an hour or so.
Hmm, for sure get me a price James. I don't know about coming out there that soon, as me and the woman are in the process of moving
. I'll definately take you up on the help though!
