Keyless Entry question
Tuesday, October 25, 2005 6:20 PM
Hello all!

I just installed my keyless entry setup and disables the door handles because they are getting shaved soon. So my question is, when your car batter is dead, or the remote batter is dead what do you use to open your door? Any ideas appreciated.

No but I think you mount a manual popper somewhere on the car.

You could run a positive terminal from your battery out so if you do need a jump start you can get one. Or you could run a pos/neg out from the solenoids, hide the wire, and use a 9 volt battery or a car battery with jumper cables to pop it open. I think they also make an emergency hood release, but I haven't found one yet.

Make your own - Open the hood, then locate the cable that pulls the latch. Cut it, get some cable clamps (not sure if that's what they're called, but they're small clamps that are used to connect 2 pieces of barbed wire or small diameter cable), make a loop in the exposed cable and use the cable clamp to secure the loop. Next zip-tie the new, shorter cable out of view somwhere or weld a small bracket to the backside of the support brace behind the bumper to hold the cable.
