questions about power wire

ok i have a hifonics amp, and what happened is the power wire from the battery is melting. when you get to where the fuse is it looks like the container is starting to melt but the amp and everything is still working great.

im ot sure whats caused it but im not really that worried about it. or should i be. the fuses havent blown or anything so im not sure. do you think that the amp draining the battery could cause the power wire to start to melt. well thanks.

Sounds like you have 8 guage wire, the stuff thats about the diameter of a pen..
If you are running somewhere upwards of 800 watts or so you'll start melting it because its too thin....
Is your ground 8 guage too?

what size is the amp?
what size is the wire?
what size is the fuse?

and make sure your wire isn't melting from the heat off the engine or hoses or something.

5 ot and 1 ot, respecively. once you get bigger than 1 gauge, it goes to ot. 5 ot is bigger than 1 ot.

well... "total overkill" for my current system. I would consider 5/0 complete insanity.
