RDS?

I have searched this, but I am looking at stereos on crutchield.com and it asks if my car has it. I own a 2005 Cav, so does it have it? Do I need it on a new stereo?

RDS is a radio feature. If you remove the factory radio, you remove the RDS. There isn't anything different about installing an aftermarket deck, whether you have RDS or not.

Think of it as a CD player. Some people have cassette, some people have CD.

I don't have the monsoon and I do have the RDS, and the display is up to the radio DJ. sometimes they forget about it and the wrong band and song names are displayed, personally I find it uderly useless.

how would it be any different than a radio not equipped with rds? it's the same thing. Just think of RDS as another radio feature that has nothing to do with the rest of the car.

sorry, i'll refraise. if you have your door chime come through your speakers, you need the adaptor. RDS was the easy way to tell on 2000 GM cars.

on my non rds radio, my door chimes came through the speakers too. that's not an RDS thing, that's a Class 2 thing. RDS is, as said before, radio data system. it let's the dj's display information about the song and title, or whatever else they want.

Ahhh.... stop spreading misinformation!!!!

All 2000+ J-cars use the stock radio to generate the door chimes. All of them. That includes RDS.

Like I said... RDS is a radio feature. There is no external wiring associated with it. The wiring harness in the car, and the harness for an aftermarket radio is THE SAME regardless of whether the car has RDS or not.
