is it aftermarket? if it is it might be wired to a constant 12v line. meaning it has power all the time, my old one was like that. You have to turn it off manually.

it sounds to me that he was a broken door pin and his car has RAP. (retained accessory power) did your cars radio stay on until you opened the door? IF it did then that is the caser

How would I go about fixing a broken door pin? I have a stock head unit, but there is an RCA output adapter wired for the subs. It used to shut off when I opened the door, and the ampilifer would turn off when the key was turned off. Now they both stay on without the key, while the door is open. thanks

you'll have to buy a new one and put it in.

who did the install of the output adapter? is it the same thing as a hi-low converter? i ran a hi-low converter for my RCA's when i first got my cavy. it all shut off when i pulled the key outta the ignition. Now there is a aftermarket stereo in place of the stocker and i think i wired it thru the ignition or something, cause it still shuts off when i pull the key out. i say trace the wire(s) and see if anything looks outta place and then go from there...

well im starting to think that it could be the ignition switch. the problem i think is that when i turn the key off the switch doesnt cut off.

when you use the Hi-lo convertor(rca output adaptor) same thing. you also need a remote turn on adapter ..

thats should be the trrick to get it to turnoff
good luck

Everything worked fine before... I've had the stereo for three years, but a couple of weeks ago it wouldn't turn off. Have any of you had problems with the starter switch after the relay recall?

i just started having the same problem..... i have an 02 cavalier, stock radio, all ive upgraded is the speakers. i do have the RAP... how often do the door pins break? and how can you tell if its broken? also this just happened now that its cold, could the weather affect the function of the RAP or the door pin? i just pulled my fuse for now, but i thought i had read something on radios not shutting off... i'll keep searching
