The guy who installed my alarm consistently hits 148-149db (highest was 149.8db at the dash (new mic)) with 3-15" type-rs in his 03 cav. Enclosure is ~4.5cuft sealed with the baskets sticking out. If I heard him correctly, his 149.8 was at 42Hz, which sounds a bit low to me.

I myself have no idea what I'm hitting with my stroker (it's still a work in progress).

i'm hitting 145 with a brahma, Mrs Sears on termpro is hitting 149+ with a single 15 in the trunk I think shes playing around 48 hz. And thats with the back seat up. I've never heard anything bad about RE myself, But its all up to you on what you want to go for, do you want strictly comp or is it going to be a daily driver? and whats your buget look like for your system?

Nice!
I'm guessing that those are probably some of the most accurate 7dbs to ever grace a J. I'm jealous - my stroker easily puts me in the 150s, but I really can't put the words "sound quality" in any sentence with "my stroker"....unless I use the words "bad" or "poor"... I really need to find a way to wedge 2 10s or a 12 purely for SQ. Has anyone out there tried putting subs in the rear side panels?

how did mrs. sears hit a 149 with a single 15 can i meet her or call her. and how do they meter the sq contest.

you could easily fit a 10 in each sidepanel. would require a bit of work getting everything enclosed. but it can be done. you can also fit a 10 up front under your dash with some decent modifiacation skills to your center console.

im actually doing right around 140 on the dash with a pair of image dynamics 10's and around 500 watts.

sq contest is about how good it sounds. you use ears to judge that not meters. some orginatasaions may still use an rta during judging, but that wont tell you how good it sounds.

Mrs sears spent alot of time tweaking her car. just like everyone who competes its not a wham bam thank you mam thing. ask sndsgood how many hrs he's spent tweaking his system. lol i bet its alot.

Unholy savage. Good luck in the side panels if you go that route. you'll have to glass the hell out of it to make it strong and pray you dont get rattles. you could do 8s. How big is your box for your stroker? Ported or sealed? It shouldnt have poor sq.

Oh spl number.

When I was getting my alarm installed, I caught a glimpse of the new shallow-mount 12-inch pioneer sub at the shop, which got me thinking about the possibility of putting 1-2 of them either in the rear deck or the side panels (especially since I have a Mmats D100 amp just sitting in my closet at the moment). The salesman I was chatting with said that they work well in sealed boxes as small as 0.5cuft, which shouldn't be too hard to make room for. I think Earthquake makes something very similar, but I've not heard either of them so I have no idea how accurate/low they can play. I initially wanted to try out a single 12" Eclipse Ti sub, but their mounting depth is an issue. With only a 3-inch mounting depth, I should be able to mount 1-2 in the rear deck (above my stroker box), pointing up. I've never had the side panels off to see what I have to work with, but would guess that rattles would be a major issue if not built properly. The rear deck is a bit easier to work with IMO, but I'm still up in the air about the whole thing.

At the moment, my stroker is in a 4.7cuft (net) ported box tuned to 33Hz, which is firing toward the rear. For an 18 it is surprisingly accurate (not as good as my old 12w6s, but pretty good - you'd never know it was an 18). The box is far too small, and I don't have nearly enough port area (only 45sqin right now) for it to perform properly, so I'm in the process of changing it up. I'm aiming for ~6.5-7cuft (net) with about 100-125sqin of port area, with interchangeable ports (one tuned to 33-34hz, and another for ~45hz for comps). The box is going to be facing forward (sealed off from the rest of the trunk). My goal is to once again break 150db - hopefully mid 150s, but we'll see (I hit 152.4 in my festiva, and 154.8 in my explorer - both boxes were tuned super low (33-34hz)).

I do have one question - I plan on building a box that extends all the way to the back of the trunk, and was wondering if something that deep would still fit in through the front doors? I plan on taking out the front seats, but am worried that I'll get it built and it won't fit. My current box extends back far enough to be level with the back of the rear window (I still have ~10 inches of space left), and it seemed to have quite a bit of room when putting it through the front doors, so my fingers are crossed. I may have to build it in 2-3 pieces.

sndsgood is right, although the SQ contest I was in they made everyone get mettered in SPL in case there was an exact tie in the judging they go off who has the higher SPL. The bigest problem with SQ contests is its a different cd they use at every event, unles you have acces to the cd you can't do any last minuet tweeking... like certain types of music I adjust the bass depending on what I'm listening to, I mean I leave it alone for the most part but in SQ they are extremely picky. Also I turn up the rear speakers if there are people back there but in SQ you don't want any of the sound to sound liek its coming form the rear. theres alot they take into acount, not nearly as simple as just hook up a mic and pound it for a few seconds

Just the other day i hit 144 with an RE sx 15 and the gain was only half way up, i'm thinking of running more power to it, but it's definatley a start. I just made the RE conversion and i'm loving it, hit's all the notes my old subs couldn't. I definatley recommend them to anyone.
