Help with L7 and ported box! ASAP!!!
Wednesday, September 28, 2005 2:36 PM
hey i have a 12" l7 and i was told to get a ported box. i keep reading and looking and i keep finding boxes with different frequencies? what is best for it? here is one i was lookin at...

http://cgi.ebay.com/46Hz-SINGLE-12-KICKER-L7-PORTED-BOX-5012_W0QQitemZ5812736443QQcategoryZ14945QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

and this one too...

however when i was reading it seems everyone says to go with a box that is atleast 2.5 cubic feet so im leaning towards the top one. my question is why does it have a higher frequency and is that good or bad?

id go with the 2nd one,a 2.5cubic foot port is huge, the 12'' solo-X which is kickers premier sub requires a 3cubic foot port and its a 5,000rms sub i know cuz i lo0ked into getting two,in my opinion 2.5 feet for a 750rms sub is way to much,as far as hitting higher frequencies YOU DONT WANT THAT,and your getting that b/c of such a big port, check on Kicker.com they have specs and recommendations for l5's/l7's and the solo x

the websites says 1.75-3.25 so why do you think its to big? what will the size of the box affect?

Build your own. Prefab = Garbage

smaller boxes require more power to push them
larger boxes are more efficent and require less power and can hit lower notes easier.

does the frequency just have to do with the size of the port and not the size of the box?

i love my l7s, just sucks that the box has to be so huge for it.. my installer was goin to put a probox into my trunk but it wouldnt fit.. and the dimensions that he needed for my car; the box just barely fitted.. he had to put the box he made that was sprayed with reflex through the backseat and had to bend some metal pieces to get it in all the way... a pain in the ass, but totally worth it..

im not sure exactly how many cubic feet mine is, but i know its tuned to 52 hz
