So my fiance has a 97 sunfire and the factory cd player crapped out last week. We are getting ready to sell the car so I'm hoping someone has some ideas for a really cheap fix. Everytime you put a CD in, error code 18 comes up, which i've heard means that its basically fried. I don't want to put in an aftermarket head unit since I'm selling the car. I checked on Ebay, and used factory replacements are like 70 bucks with shipping which is ridiculous. I personally don't think they're worth $5......volume control hasn't worked from day one. Anyway, I found that I could get a factory 2000 and up cd player cheaper so I was wondering if anyone knew how much trouble it would be to replace a 97 with the newer model. Otherwise, if anyone has an old 96-99 cd player collecting dust in a closet I would be interested in purchasing it for a reasonable price. Thanks, have a good one.
