well last april I bought the shining new Avic-N1 the coolest head unit on the market for 1850 now you would think for something costing that amount of money it would have something better than a 1 year warranty on it but no. So here I am 4 months out of warranty and now the majority of buttons on the detachable face dont work as well as the LCD just went dead. Now I have to find someplace to fix it, anyone have an idea of what it will cost?

- Sold my beloved J in April 2010 -
I had a sony with a flip down face and the buttons went out slowly one by one, it ended up being the ribbon I took it to get fixed $15.00 part, $50 labor, I would look really carefully myself at the ribbon if I could do it all again, lol.
clean the contacts between the face plate and the unit?
did that, i really hope it is something that simple i love this headunit and i am lost (literally) without it

lost.. lol
cuz its ur navi..! I GET IT
HAHHAHA
AHAH
sorry...
yeah teh ribbon is going on my sony deck, when the faceplate flips, the buttons don't work nor does the display, so I have to reset it to change CD's... however it still takes the remote signals when up or down and the outside of the faceplate still works great... if anyone wants it to fix with a new ribbon, drop me a line... I'll sell it cheap... CDX-M630 is teh number...
but yeah, in accordance with the topic, my educated guess is that your cable/ribbon went from teh stress on it and you should just replace it... as far as I know, you should be able to do it yourself...
umm most things come with only a 1 year warranty, remember when best buy or who ever offered you one for $ 60 on a $1800 unit i would have bought that
try looking on thier website to see if there are any tips

Man... it's a N1.... I'd rather get a N2

hehe
only diff is that it supports the xm nav traffic which doesnt really work according to almost every mag thats reviewed it

hey rodimus...
the same thing happened to me... not even 1 year into it and the sreen went dead and the buttons satrted to cut out..
However: I did buy the extra warrenty on top of the 1year... i took it back to circiut city and they took it out today as a matter of fact. and even installed an old radio i had for free!
The reason i didnt want to get the avic-n2 is not only does it have a gyro in the brain, but i wanst liking the fact that i would beable to have it set up the way i did before with the brake wire grounded to overide the parking brake control.
I burned Music dvds to listen to while i drive and for my passengers to look at while i drive. lol
The deal with the N-1 fpr service is that it might come back with the N-2 upgrade... however it it does then ill be slighlty upset cause thats one of the main reasons i went with the n1 ...
and apperently there are newer updated maps on the n2 not just the xm traffic feature..
good luck..
let me know hopw it goes..
GOT ECOTEC?
well if it does come back with the upgrade does that mean that i wont be able to have the parking brake sensor grounded?
I already upgraded the software when they sent me the new nav disks

have you tried contacting pioneer, ive dealt with a couple companies with audio items and had some pieces that were 5 and 6 years old get repaired for free. i havnt dealt with pioneers warantee service so i cant speak for them directly but i'd try them first, if its something common theyve probalby seen it allot and can point you in the right direction at least.
