I've got a 1600watt amp powering 2 12" sony Subs at 800watts each, their mounted in a 4 port bandpass box with cotton (or what ever that white fluff inside is), and each speaker is in a seperate shamber (behind the speaker).
The Sony's sound OK for now, but I'de like to have some harder hitting bass, I'm wondering what the best 12" subs would be to use in the box/amp setup I currently have. I like infinity's but I'm not sure how theyed work in a bandpass. I'm pretty sure there supposed to be sealed.
Burn the box, and run over that amp.
Seriously prefab bandpass boxes are the absolute worst thing that you can run. Any sub you buy for it is going to sound like a big loud fart.
Second, what model number is that Sony. I can tell you it is not putting out 1600 watts unless it is one of their top end models. So in order to choose a sub for it, you need to figure out how much clean power you have to work with.
I'm sorry, I wasn't specific enough. The amp isn't sony. It's a Leagcy 400X4 amp, bridged to run the 2 Sony 12s at 800watts each. It actually sounds really good..crisp, clean, and loud. There just not quite as loud as I'm used to. I'm thinking a "good" set of 12's other than Sony, will help.
Hey how ya doing there Bolt...., you really think If I told everyone that it was Darkstars old sytem that would really make a difference?

You remember reading that thread awhile back dont ya.

I'm happy with it, I'm just wondering if it can be improved a little..I'm kinda a bass head, and no matter how loud my system is, I'm always lookng for more. Just can't justify the cash right now for the exact sytem I wan't. I'll Probably leave those in there for awhile, but as long as the amp keeps working I'll just replace the subs, when I have the money, or the sony's wear out.
Oh ya, I can't remember what brand the box is, the lable is kinda hard to read. It's a good box though. I just don't expect the sonys to last forever.
yea i remember the thread. actually before that thread i was trying to get a girl i know to buy them from him, but that fell through. but yea, i don't honestly know where i was goign with the whole darkstars thing though. i guess you could ask him, he might remember the info on them.

What you know about Street Racing anyways? Only what Fast & Furious taught us....
SO EVERYTHING!
I could just try a little harder the read the label. I'm probably going to leave it the way it is for awhile, but I know the Sony 12"s arn't going to last forever (not the highest quality) especially since I turned the amp bak up. Darkstars seems like a cool guy, and I still can't believe that he sold it all to me for that price.
If your going to buy something off someone always pay cash, especially at a meet
I would get a good Class D amp for the subs before replacing the sony subs. I've never seen a Legacy amp put out close to what its rated for. In real world use most of the amps from Boss, Legacy, SPL, etc only put out 1/3 to 1/2 of what they are rated for.
Get a good class D amp ( Alpine, Kicker, MTX, etc) then worry about your subs and box.
I've never even heard of Legacy before I got this thing, I've heard Alpine is pretty dang good. Although out of every bass testing CD i've played, the subs have been able to produce every note on the disc. Once it gets low enough, ( I mean really low, like 10htz or so) you can't hear them any more, but you can still feel them pretty good. Is that normal or am I just running a lower SPL than some people.
Once your below the 20hz range your not going to hear it anyways. The human ear can only hear from 20hz to about 20khz.
I'ts not that loud down that far, but even when the bass stops I can still hear the air in the car moving. It's actually a pretty good system for what it is, people that know stereos are suprised to see what it is after hearing it. For some reason the bass doesnt travel away from the car as much as you'de expect it to.The mids and highs travel for blocks though, I love the Infinity components. Maybee the fact that its in a sunbird has something to do with that?
