I know that the newer gauges and clusters are all digital. I havn't had one from a sunfire apart, but I know that I had a set apart from a 91 shadow a long time back and they used a magnetic field type rotary actuator which must have had a variable signal sent to it to drive it farther up the scale and whatnot.

Has anybody had theirs apart, is this how these work? And does anybody know what type of voltage range it would have if this is the case?
