hey everyone...
im in the market for some new subwoofers.... i had infinity kappa 10" DVC, but i blew one and wasnt really impressed by them.
what i would really like is a nice 10" 2 ohm DVC sub. Im going more for sound quality, but id like something that hits and would like to take full advantage of my JBL 1200 watt amp.
I dont want to be paying for the "name" (Audiobahn, JL Audio, etc.), so does anyone have any suggestions for a good quality speaker?
Thanks in advance.

if you want sound quality..then your using the wrong amp.
but anyway... go with a DLS ur10 if your serious about your sq. (gonna need a better amp though, lmao)

Alpine Type-S (SWS-1022D) or Type-R (SWR-1022D) would do fine. Crutchfield has the MB Quart PWE 252 on sale, never used one tho dunno how good they are.

I also like diamond audio and cadence audio. agree with the wysiwyg on the amp.

first of all what is your budget and yes I can help you get more bang for the buck first of all more watage dose not always sound the best cause it is all about air space a lot of spkrs need alot of air space to be push with higher watage let me know your budget first than put somthig to gether. I am sure that you sell that amp and you can get a system that hits harder for that price.

i agree the jbl gto1201.1 sounded like way more than i needed....but i (originally) wanted to go will all infinity products and was going to get one of the infinity amps but i found the jbl for cheaper. i was going to get the 600 watt one, but with the 4 ohm DVC speakers i had the 600 wouldnt have been enough, so i got the 1200 watt amp.
i wouldnt be against selling it and getting another amp. i was just trying to replace the subs with a 2 ohm DVC so i can wire them to give the amp a 1 ohm load which would use its full potential. but now i see that 600 watts is way too much power for most subs.
any suggestions?
my budget is about $300-$400 for 2 subs
im thinking if i do sell my amp, i can get about $200 from that

Have you tried the Kappa Perfect? You may like it better than the Kappa.
Other than that, in the same price range I'd recommend Alpine Type-R as well.
Theres also MB Quart, amazing subs.
i think ive decided on the MB Quart Premiums from Crutchfield.....cant beat that price, ive always heard positive stuff about MB Quart as well

orion h2 10" DVC 4ohm, I'd say IDMAX but that is just a tad bit too much power for them.
that JBL 1200.1 is just fine...there used to be a challenge going around on the forums for $10,000. It was from an audio engineer to the general public. To prove to him the differance in SQ between subwoofer amplifiers being used in their factory specs. It simply doesn't matter in a subwoofer. You're not going to get enough distortion from the amp to be noticable to a sub. So, it doesnt matter if you have the jbl or the jbl gto, 1200 watts is 1200 watts. And before anyone says it, this "challenge" excluded certain questionable amplifier companies like BOSS, low end legacy, and etc. This goes for amps that are specced to be below a certain point for THD.
if you're planning on using 2 subs, you need dual 4ohm subs to get to 1ohm:

Brian, thank you for correcting me...
what i really meant to say was with a 2 ohm DVC sub i can get them to a 2 ohm load, which is the lowest my amp can handle (since it is not 1 ohm stable)...
so i have decided to get the 4 ohm DVC subs, but i will be wiring them in each indidually in series to give them 8 ohms each. This will then give the amp a 4 ohm load then when each sub is connected.
at 4 ohms my amp gives app. 787 watts, which will break down to around 394 watts per sub (the recommended on the MB Quarts is 400 watts).

get a set of ALPINE vr12s you will be able to keep that amp and te subs will handle the power you send to them but dont go with the kapas you will run into the same prob.the subs will run about $200 or $240 each depending where you go and yes they can handle 1om but remember with having a system buying cheep you get cheep and have to continue buying more stuff go with quality and run every thing the way that your local shop or the instalers tel you and you will have a system that will last. Just another note I have all JL auto and yes they have lasted almost 7 years and for the first time I am chamging every thing up but I am sticking to JL like I said it is about QUALITY.

Jason, thank you for your response, alpines are in my list of decision.
and yes, i know JL is quality. some of my friends have used JL for years and love them.
Im just looking for something different, but with quality. And not such a high price.
Crutchfield has the MB Quart 10" Premium subs on sale for a really good price. I can get 2 of them shipped for $280. Anyone have any experience with these subs?
Also, these 10's require the same amount of air space as my kappa's, so i wont need to redo my custom trunk layout.

subs don't "handle" ohms....you get whatever voice coil configuration you need to match your amplifier.
