question about encloser...
Monday, June 20, 2005 9:28 PM
I have a "sealed" encloser that is 3" high..38" long..and 34" wide..utilizing my spare tire well with air space..with two 12" almani subs and two 1100 watt amps..its weird though..dont know if it cause its sealed to the body or what..but the entire car shakes soo bad when it hits that it feels like the car is missing and the stearing wheel is hard to control and the pedels like have a mind of there own..is this common with enclosers like this?

so it's only 3" high..your subs must be what, like 2.5" mounting depth?

no the sub is like 8" mounting depth..there actually-mounted on the top over the spare wheel well....the box is around the empty spare wheel well like 3 inches on each side

one more thing..it seem to respond to low bass alot better then tight bass..example..three six mafia..low bass songs..@!#$in very loud..eminim..doesnt hit very hard..just seems like low bass..and its sealed not ported

does it mean there may be too much air space?

I know what you did... and I bet the reason why your subs sound like that is because you aren't completely sealed... You need to go back and screw that wood down to your car and then run silicone all over all the seams.. going overboard here will be a good thing..

I bet your very close to running those subs near free air which is not good at all.. also make sure you check your amps crossover and gain to make sure they are set correctly

well centered over the spare tire will your looking at somewhere in the 5-6 cubic foot range. so roughly 2.5-3 cubic foot per 12 what is the recomened airspace on those subs? i bet your even to big for a speced ported box.

best subs in the wrong sized enclosure will sound like ass.

well guys..i had an experenced intaller look at it today..he has built alot of comp systems around this area..he said yes..it was around 5-6cuft..and told me it was sealed perfect which he said was suprizing cuz its hard to do ..but it was sealed..and said to put 2 4"x11" ports in the box and it will solve the problem and the rattling..also to put dyno mat inside the box..if not all over the trunk..but what was really needed was the ports..he said after mearsuring stuff..that he was shocked cuz ported to what he said..my box i built was like .003 from being the perfect ported space for the subs..ill port it and take sum more pics
