Anyone here have remote start on their cars, anyone want to install one?
I have a remote start on my car, I also converted my manual locks to power so now I have keyless entry too!!! Also converted my manual crank windows to power... (yes, even manuals can have remote starts and I know just the place to check out for a self-install too!! I did it to my nissan 240sx 5-speed)
Just make sure you don't try to start the car when it's in gear. You'll regret it.

I had one on my Thunderbird, it ended up causing a lot of problems, and eventually quit working on me.

Yella02-I promise I will return to you in one piece and this will stay up until I am safely home
i dont want to put it into my manual. i know that ill leave it in gear one of the times.
I heard that some models for manuals are set up so that you turn the car off with the remote after you got out, it's hooked up to the door switch that way you can't leave it in gear since it won't restart unless it was turned off by remote.

Never heard of that.
Personally, When I had a stick, it'd get parked but left out of gear anyhow, and I'd just apply the parking brake. I forgot it once, but ehh... that was early on and the girl whose car I bumped was cute, and there was little damage.

that is exactly how mine is hooked up on my 240SX. You have to engage the e-brake (it has a wire connected to it to show that it's engaged), car running, no foot on brake, you press the remote button twice, four chirps follow, you get out of the car while it's still running, close the door, the car dies, locks the doors and chirps twice to let you know remote start has been set. This prevents you from leaving the car in gear.
there was a store a down the block from me that was working on putting a remote start in a car and they engaged it and sent it thru the front window of the store. it was pretty amusing (for the people watching at least)
miguel, how difficult was it to convert manual doors to power? im thinking about doing this

Wasn't too hard Smoothcavi. The hardest part was feeding the wiring through the doors... etc. If you find a good place to mount the actuators, everything else is easy... took me almost five hours to do a four door (the first time I ever attempted converting locks)
Jettin back to the remote start for manuals for a sec...
You know those little Bell & Howell window/door/cabnet alarms?
These things:
Well if I understand how they work, there should be a magnet in the small part which goes on the window/door/cabnet door, so when seperated from the main part (the biggun) which is mounted on the door jamb/window frame, the alarm goes off.
Wouldn't it be possible to use the similar concept?
Attach a magnet to the base of the shifter and a switch at the exact point where the shifter is in neutral. This would involve removing the center console and such...
But that would be a good safety feature to the remote start issue. If the car's in gear, the circuit is open. Any signal from the remote is null and void, car won't start.
How 'bout it electronic gurus... Possible?
miguel- about how much did it cost?
