i just m building my new set-up and wondering how i would go about figuring out airspace,
thnx ahead
umm yah ummm k when itake it out do i weigh or it something
Using the sand method, you would have a seperate container with a known volume (ie box that is 1ft x 1ft x1ft = 1 cubic foot), and maybe one more that is 6in x 6in x 1ft = .25 cubic ft
Using the sand, you can fill the enclosure and then start scooping into the seperate container.
This method is a bit messy, but a heck of alot easier if your enclosure has some odd geometry to it.
thnx guys will make my life that much easier
If it's airtight you could presurize it slightly with an air tank and see how much the pressure changes from the original value.
Initial pressure * Initial Volume = Final pressure * Final Volume
If you had a 5 gallon air tank pressurized to 10 psi and hooked it up. If the pressure equalized at 3psi you would have:
10 * 5 = 3 * final volume
final volume = 50/3 =16.6gal
16.6gal - 5gal (the tank) = 11.6gal
11.6 gal = 1.55 cubic ft
It's probably easier to do it other ways, but this would work.
What is the converion ratio of gallons to cubic foot?
ive built them before jsut never worried about airspace lol and i wanna tune my port so yah
thnx, so yah maybe ill post what ill be using well seeing as i have ehard may JL w3 systems and loved them i will be using 2 JL 10 inch w6's which will take up half of my trunk, ti will be done the next month or so i hope
i heard packing peanuts are a good solution as well..not as messy as the sand but not quite as exact either..phil
Dont you have to subtract the volume of the backside of the sub, or do the recommended box volumes take this into consideration?
sndsgood wrote:if you plan on porting them i'd get it as exact as you possibly can. your going to have to make sure that both subs have the same airspace as each other as well.
eh..as long as it's pretty close. i don't think it would matter if the tuning was + or minus a few.

well since im inverting them i dont think that will be a problem, with sub volume, and yah that why i wanna be like down to the wire for volume, im going wiht 10 inch JL W6's, my 3 weeks with audiobahn have been hell i got some real cool ideas going on
