As bad as that is, I've seen worse. It's amazing the things you see when you work at a shop. I'm sure some of the guys on here have seen worse as well.

I've seen a few of those myself. Not exactly the stump, though, I have to admit. Seen a few where people have bought cardboard building formers and used them for sub enclosures, though. They've usually cut the holes in them with their box knives and stripped the wires with their teeth...taped the connections with duct tape...you get the picture.
"Hmmm...wonder why stuff's not workin' quite right, though....must be broke or sumthin'"
