XXX enclosures
Sunday, June 05, 2005 7:34 AM
Just had this on sounddomain forums but no help

Right now im running a crossfire w15d in a 3.5 cube ported box at around 35hz on an amp that feeds it 500watts at 2 ohms. now im getting a z24, same size car and trunk as my sunfire sedan, and I really want my trunk back. is anyone running 2 12" xxx;s in the recomended .8 sq enclosure? I plan on pairing the set up with a crossfire 2000D and im wondering how loud these will get with that setup. im tired of not having a functional trunk, but still want my crazy loud low end.

I know a way you can get your trunk back.

how would that be? my current idea is to make f/g enclosures in that dead space behind the wheel wells, i think it would give roughly a cubic foot on each side, but i dont know if just doing two sealed 12s would give me the loudness im looking for

to me it would sound like @!#$ and wont get that loud.

if i was you ill go with a single 15 or 12 seal off the trunk and fire the sub into the car just cut a little and slid a box in thats tall and wide. you can get about 4 cubes and still have half your trunk

so your looking at doubling your cone space (2 subs instead of 1) and your going to be doubling your power? that should be louder then what you had.

i think i may just go with a single 15 sealed into the trunk opening, and go ported, cus the xxx15 has a slightly more than double the xmax of my w15d

how much trunk space do you want to use up? also check out on termpro.com for some box spec's.

a 15" XXX ported with 2000 watts will be loud and sound good doing so

If you're worried about trunk space, I would suggest going with a sealed enclosure. For a XXX15 you'll only need about 2.5 cubic feet of airspace. If you go ported you'll need a significantly larger enclosure.

they will still get PLENTY loud enough in a sealed enclosure. not to mention your lows will be awesome.

i would say...try both.

just do it temporarily. build both ported and sealed, see what kind of result you get.

today i had the opurtunity of playing with an avic d1, and listening to some various w7s. now i heard a 10' w7 in the smallest recomended sealed box..... and it was loud in the show room, and soundded great..... is this what i should expect from a xxx in their smallest sealed box as well?

its louder when I had my single 15 it stomped on all the w7 installs. compared to 13w7 and two 12 w7 installs. I wouldnt even put it up against the 10 it would take its lunch money,.

when calculating the port area you just multiply dimension G x F ???

port area us length times height. Port length is a four headed monster that eats lava and spits fiure. That is a monster of an equation. you can get it from jlaudio.com
