Need help buying an amp
Saturday, June 04, 2005 9:27 PM
Well, I have a pair of Sony two way 6x9's max power is 200 watts and the rated input power is 50 watts, i also have Sony 3 way 6 1/4 speakers in the doors same power ratings as the 6x9's. I wanted to buy an amp. Im guessing a 4 channel amp would be what i want. But thats about as far as i get, what should i get? I guess i want something from sony. After i get an amp, what else do i need to hook it up (im thinking about mounting it under the passangers seat) Im a newb when it comes to audio stuff, but i think im pretty good with my hands and ive done a good amount of engine mods with no problems so i think once i know what i need i can do this myself.

If you get a 200 watts 4 channel amp, that will power those speakers just fine. I would suggest keeping away from sony though, you can find much higher quality stuff out there for about the same price.

I've got a clarion APA450 for sale if you want. Check out the link on eBay

I may not know much about cars, but I know two things....
1) Breaking things is expensive, and
2) Horsepower isn't cheap.

make sure that whatever amp you get puts out no more than 60W RMS x4 at 4 ohms, and you should be fine. If you want my speaker opinion, yes, take them back.
