and i want to know what i should do for subs. i listen mainly to deathmetal. like in flames and opeth. and its really hard fast paced stuff. so what should i get for subs.
two 10's? cause 10's move faster? or one 15 cause its big and boomy? and what kind of incluse should i put theese speakers in? pepboys has the sealed two 10 enclosure. loosk good. might be cheap.
and who makes good subs? quality wise. im not goin to be blasting my music all the time.
i just want as little distorition as possible.
what kind of inclosure*** should i put theese subs in?
for metal 2 good 10s, in a sealed box... make sure the enclosure size conforms to the manufacturer recomended box volumes. stay away from retail store speakers. find a car audio shop and get something good, like DD or crossfire. hope that helps if u need any more info my AIM is rouenacanoe
Best idea is to go out and listen to everything you can - decide what YOU like the best. Everyone has different tastes when it comes to sound. My recommendation would be Infinity (Any will sound fine) of Alpine (Type-R or better).
I have 1 10", and its not a 'you can hear me coming' type sub, but in the car, its plently loud enough.
You could also go 2 10" or 1 12" if you wanted to.
It's all relative to the amount of power you're gonna feed them. I'm giving mine 270watts RMS, and like I said, its plenty loud enough inside the car for me. Decide how much you want to spend on an amp, then go from there.
You probably want a sealed enclosure for the type of music you listen to.
2 10"s in a sealed box. They move quick and the sealed box helps out too,
pretend that pep boys doesnt even sell car audio..its all junk
i listen to the same type of music, i have 2 kicker comp cvr's 10 inch in a sealed box and i love the sound, btw theyre powered by a kenwood 1000 watt amp

Now to the other people in this thread, don't take this the wrong way.....
Ignore everything you've read with the exception of going out and listening to everything you can. It's the only way you will be able to find out what you like best. One person might find 2 10" Infinitys to be the best; personally, I don't like how they sound;' another might like 2 15" Kicker L7's, and so on and so on.
The only way you will find out is by listening.

The system has arrived.
oh yeah, its all objective, everyone will be different, you gotta try different subs, go to a shop that has samles of subs to listen to

what about best buy? for speakers. or www.cardomain.com ?
and about the encloruse. if i build my own do i want both subs in the same box, both using the whole box. or should i put a peice of wood between the subs. so each sub has its own thing. you guys get my drift? sorry i cant explain it any better.
or should i go out and buy an enclosure?
i listen to metal myself (although i dont conisider in flames DEATH metal by ANY means..but whatev) and i bought 2 12" infinity kappa perfects, crisp as hell, children of bodom, in flames, it all sounds great with mine. and i just hit 140Db on a REALLY low amp tune with them, so they are loud as hell too.

If you want them to both be in the same box, then you should put some wood between the two subs so they have their own enclosure and aren't sharing air space. If one sub goes bad then it has to compensate pressure for what the other is now not doing. Hope you can understand my gibberish. Oh and don't just go out and buy an enclosure. Build one to the spec's of your sub(s).
i skipped ahead so forgive if i repeat somethin someone else said, first go listen to as much as possible, go to like best buy circuit city, local audio shops always have demo cars and sometimes customer cars you can get ideas from. Second buy quality and you'll be happy alot longer.
Adire audio makes great subs, diamond audio are good to, stay clear of audiobahn, sony, volfenhag, lighting audio and jl audio(good subs way overpriced)
Alpines are really good for the price to, 10"s, 12"s 15"s they all have their perks
10s dont take up as much room, are pretty quick and have decent bass response
12"s are just as quick, take up alittle more room and push twice as much air, do the math a 12" cone has almost twice the area a 10" cone has so 2 12"s are pushing alot more air
now some people say that 15's dont respond as well but its all about quality, if you get high end subs like the adires they will respond just as quick because the cone isnt as heavy and is more linear than the lower quality subs.
personally i would recommend 2 12" subs in a sealed box, set them up at the optimum space recommended, usually alittle smaller will be faster response because theres less air to move, but not always true, stay away from ported or bandpass boxes they are sluggish on fast beats but rap they play great.
Adire audio is in the middle of releasing their new line as well so once that comes out there will be tons of options on their subs which are very well priced and for the money you cant beat them, they also are great sq subs as well as great spl depending on setups.

I listen to mostly metal myself (slipknot, nothingface, stone sour, mudvayne, etc.) techno and very little rap.
I have a 12" Lightning Audio sub in a sealed box, powered by an Audiobahn amp (thanks for the setup Rodimus!) The specifics of the amp I'm not sure of (I don't know a heck of a lot about audio) but it sounds awesome for me. The sub is really clear, has good response, and I can hear it over my exhaust!! (Exhaust is really loud).
From what I do know, just like what a few others have said, is go out there and listen to what YOU like, and make sure the box is built to the proper specifications.
wooooo!!!! i LOVE opeth
i've got an alpine Type-R component set up front (6.5") powered by an Alpine MRP-T220 amp, and then 2 Kicker CVR 12" woofers being run by my Concept D1200A amp, it sounds great for metal and the like
I listen to death metal and techno too..... There isn't much else I listen to. As far as subs, in the past I went for a single powerful twelve in a seeled enclosure and I had 18 other speakers total including tweeters before I sold it all to build my motor. In Flames, Dimu Borgir and Misery Index sounded just as good as Crystal Method and Darude.

Im not even gunna comment on the ringmeat who just bashed JL... to all who know me, what i do, and how i am... you know why that hurt. but w/e i wont comment cuz if i open my mouth on the audio forum of JBO it will be the same as all the other threads, people bashing brands and whatnot cuz theres a ton out and everyone likes different stuff, but dont say one of the highest quality longest lasting, good sounding brands is junk, i cant believe you put JL in a list with lightining and sony....
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

i cant say about the others but i know someone who has volfenhag who hit 137 db awhile back. and won a stereo comp too

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
^^ He said they were good, but overpriced... however i may disagreew with the good part.
I listen to a lot... punk, hip hop, techno... They get plenty of boom for the techno and hip hop, but i turn down the bass channel on my HU and they wrok good for a full sound with punk or rock.

that mic was not accurate for example a car that hit 139 at a usaci show last year who is now louder hit 134 on the mic at this show, and yes 143 would be good enough to place 1st about 30 events for the power class in usaci this year
But you are right 137 is not impressive however the mic was far from accurate
