looking at a car its a z with 174k on the colck. I have always been leary of the quad4 engines cuz of the issues i have seen in the past. But its a really good deal so i just might get it. This would be a replacement for my dd and be my new dd. So basically would there be any big maintenence in the near future or still worth the buy?

Mine has 205k on it so If you take care of it you should be good to go. You should prob look at the water pump soon, mine went at 191. Other than that nothing else comes to mind.

You didn't say if you knew the maintenance history. If maintained, these engines are capable of exceeding 200k reliably. But, 174k on the original coolant and unknown oil and changes would weigh heavily on my decision.

Mine recently rolled over 190k and it's doing fine. Keep up to date with the maintenance and it should last for quite a while. But if not cared for, that's a lot for any engine.

It seemed like a lot of 1996 2.4's would throw a rod bearing around 140k (I know of 2 personally.) The newer models had better bearings, but I'm still leery of them.

O noes!
