I wouldn't completely swap it i would use some parts such as the intake and what not of the 2.3 and bolt it on to the 2.4, it would save a lot of wiring plus the 2.3 engine would be obd 1 so you would have to swap the whole wiring harnass plus the pcm and what not

It could also be illegal to swap an OBD1 engine into an OBD2 car.

Most of the 2.4 connectors (if not all) should connect to the correct 2.3 components. I feel the 2.3 is the better of the 2 engines. I will eventually be using a 2.3 in my 02 and dont forsee many issues.

You can run the LG0 motor on the 99 harness and PCM. A few sensors will need to be tweaked. You also need a 89ish Coolant nipple for the block. The tranny is the biggest problem. You may need to cut out your old trans mounts, and weld in some new ones.

With HPTuners you should be able to get it to run well.....at least that was my plan.

Team Green knows more about the subject than I.

you have 2 options...use your stock isuzu tranny..which will work...or if the engine is a 1992+ you can use the tranny outta the gtz ( which is a better tranny)
