I had a 91 cavalier forever. Then got a 97 cavalier and still drive it. I found a 99 cavalier with 212,000 on it that needs some love. The woman is pissed because sometimes it doesn't start. She just put 900 bucks of parts into it and just said screw it. I showed up 1.5 hrs after it was posted on craigslist and bought it in cash. The car was running in the driveway.
I am going to tinker with it and see if it is a decent car or not. I don't know what I am going to do with it LOL. Worst case scenario I use it as a parts car for my 2 door 97. Pictures coming tommorrow.
I guess I am addicted to these reliable J-bodies
99 cav 2.2L 212,000 miles
97 cav 2.2L 110,000 miles
91 cav 2.2L 236,000 miles RIP
04 Silverado Z71 Ext.Cab 55,000 miles
01 Suzuki SV650 22,000 miles
97 Arctic Cat ZRT 600 6,000 miles
Right on man what the 99 and 97 engines are not the same but the body and more then likely the trans is the same but id check the coil pack connections and look for corrosion but best of luck with possibly building it to something great i love these cars too
Good score..!!!!!! If I could get that lucky ....

This being my first J ever i can honestly say, having owned other 4 cylinder cars in the past that i thought when i got my car that this was just your basic average disposable a to b ride. I could not have been more wrong, these things are solid especially the engines my car and i have been through so much crap it's not even funny and to this day it still runs for the most part like brand new even though it has 138k on it you'd never know it.

I am not into building a cavy into anything more than a reliable daily driver lol if that is what you ment.
I will tinker with it. Maybe I will sell it, maybe I will drive it. Or maybe I will use it for parts for my 97.. but since this is a 4-door I can only use a few parts. I mainly want it for the tires and possible future parts.
I will post a picture tommorrow when it gets delivered. You guys can guess price.

I guess I can claim the same addiction... I'm on my 6th now
13, wonder who in here among us has had the most J's or is 13 the highest.
By that i mean gtp sunfire said he was on his 13th J wonder if there is anyone in here among us who is like say on their just as an example 20th or more.
Car was delivered today. Sorry just one quick picture
I drove it for 10 mins on my back road. Here is what I have discovered
- Battery dead
- Loud in cab (exhaust not touching, engine mount?)
- dome light not working, bulb fine
- coolant fan is wired inside the car
- rear brake sounds bad, so does the rear passenger strut
- looks like new head gasket and manifold gasket
- slight transmission oil or motor oil leak on the tranny pan
Oh I also noticed the odometer and trip meter seems to be malfunctioning and there was a low coolant sensor light on that went off. I think that is what it was. Turn signal also dead (bulb).
It has 212,000 miles on it. It seemed to run fine and shift fine and stop fine. I paid 250 dollars for it from a woman who just put 900 into it (wheel bearings, ignition module, plugs, wires, coil packs) and was pissed that a week later it would not start. That issue seems to have been a crap battery. I jumped it and it started LOL
I am thinking about working on some of this stuff and putting it up for sale. Maybe use the profit to put tires on my daily driver 97 that is in great shape with 1/2 the miles.
Any feedback on this? I know nothing about 99's.
I am thinking I could put it out by the road and get 750 as it sits. Maybe fix some stuff and get 1000 out of it. The loud noise when hitting the gas inside the car is the biggest hitter. I thought it was the exhaust on the car but I put it on ramps and that is not it. The exhaust is fine. Maybe motor mount is bad? It is not loud outside the car. I will get a few better pictures tommorrow. We can have some fun with this at my expense.

Didn't get any feedback.
I plan on testing the motor mounts tomorrow night with my girlfriend at the wheel. I will have her hold the brake and gas and see if the motor moves. I will watch the mounts. I went to start it tonight, it sat in 25 degrees all day, it started right up.

If its a loud clunking noise when you accelerate and decelerate then thats an upper motor mount if its quieter thud noise then its the lower motor mount, as for the dome like check your fuses, as for the new gaskets head gaskets are very commonly blown on these engines, as for the leak it could be the rear main or as simple as a tranny pan gasket ( figure out which fluid it is) as for the fan being wired inside the car id check relays to make sure one didnt go bad and the guy just rigged it before you. And the brakes are easy if you have ever done drum brakes before. The strut if needing replaces is one big bolt on the dead axle and three uppers, one facing down and the other two under the carpet in the trunk area
