i was at the track and ran a 17.22s run with a .45 r.t. is 16something run possible if i take out some weight?
Anything is possible if you take out enough weight. My cavy is 2212 with me in it and I'm sure i could still lose another 100 or so. I dont exactly have all the nessisary road legal requirments tho, lol
what did you remove that was required legally? my car is pretty far gutted. just curious what you removed.
- Your not-so-local, untrained, uncertified, backyard mechanic. But my @!#$ runs
considering you got the 17.22, I'm going to guess you have a 5-speed. if you take out back seats, door panels, spare tire and half your dash, you should be quite a bit better off and should get closer to the high 16's.

He took out everything. go check his '09 race car build thread. Bob races Oval track and runs a very custom 2.2OHV cav/monte carlo hybrid thing. (monte front bumper cut to fit the cav body)
Look at my sig, everything is gone... but you cant obviously go that far. You could remove your back seats like sugested, or replace the fronts sith lighter ones, carpet and sound deadener is also heavy.
If you get ambitious you could remove the undercoating under the carpet, its in big patches glued to the floor. That was a lot of weight, a torch and a scraper make quick work of it. That or pour dry ice on it and hit it with a hammer and it shatters. I even removed the entire lower motor mount on the passenger side, but i have a 5 speed and solid mounts. You definatly need that mount if you ar an auto. Also wouldnt recomend removing it without solid mounts which probly arent a good idea on a daily driven car.
If you're going all out you could do lexan windows and remove the hood and trunk bracing and hinges and just put 4 hood pins in. Hell my car dosent even have doors, they are just sheet metal riveted to the body.
btw, I had my race car on the scales the other day and its 2018 without me or any lead. So given you guys need a lot more junk to stay legal I'm guessing 2300 is about as good as its going to get, which is pretty decent considering.
I ran a 16.83 with a muffler on my cav when it was stock, and that was with a auto trans.
2009 Ford Mustang V6
i have seen 2.2s with a 5spd run 16.9 with a good driver
JBO since July 30, 2001
^ yeah you should get a 16.9* with a good launch, the back half of the car gutted, pass seat removed, door panels.
if you really wanna save weight at the track, take the exhaust system off from the cat all the way back. thats about 50-75lbs(may need o2 short tube to replace the misssing exhaust).
^^^^^^ no this was a 16.9 with a fully intact car on street tires
your launch is important don't worry about your RT the timer doesn't start until you roll its your 60ft time you have to get down i got my 60ft time from a 2.36 to a 2.08 but then the heat was killing my top end power and my 1/4 mile time didn't improve
track temp and launch will be a big factor
JBO since July 30, 2001
Or throw some decent tires on it, that will definatly knock down your 60ft.
I recomend Falken Azenis, but I'm bias.
so now that im interested...
a stock ecotec...
AEM cold air is my only add on under the bonnet....
lol i said bonnet...
5-speed and my tired are Kumhos and wider than normal street tires. (if it matters)
are we still talkin breakin into the 16s if i have a good run?
estimates...
gotta find a track around here...
The OP says 2200.
If your ECOTEC can't pull 16s stock, it probably isn't running right.

Yeah that was a 16.83 out of my 01 2200 auto, base model
My auto eco with a intake, and catback ran a 15.90.

^ ^ ^ Do you think you had a strong 2200 or a turd of an ECO. Asking because you were less than a second quicker with an ECO with bolt ons than a 2200 with a muffler.
thanks
the seats, half the dash, center console, and spare are all comin out next run. hopin for the best
I ran a 16.87 with my 96 2.2 with everything stock but the muffler and decent all season tires. Just gotta have a good launch and a decent track. The condition of the track is definately something to consider too. Theres days where it was more slippery than other times.
How do you guys with the five speeds take off, i currently rev err up to 3500rpm and let off the clutch just enough that the tires squeak not spin, and leave some where between the change from the 2nd last yellow to the last yellow. i also switch gears at 5500rpm
any tips for that perfect run?
if you rev and launch and the car grips and bogs you have successfully ruined that run
in all my cars i rev to say 2000 max and when the last yellow turns on i step on it, don't wait for green it comes quickly after the last yellow
try out a few things and see how you do. i think a 5500 on a 2200 is good try doin a 6000 see what you get

I used to launch from 5000 in my 2.2, and ride the clutch a bit to keep from having wheelspin and from bogging. Then shifted at around 6100-6200rpm.

without spray my 2200 runs 16.7's. All i have is a header, no cat, and a muffler. Not to mention the car is on air so that adds some weight there.
honestly im not sure what i shift at because i dont have a tach but i just went with the sound and it took a lot of practice to get the launch right. I ran consistency runs and i got first place at the cedar falls track just because i was so used to it.
Take 1st gear to 30mph, 2nd gear to 50mph, and 3rd gear to 85 mph. Or push it till you pass the finish line.
for a stock 2.2 i dont know what im running for time we dont got a 1/4 mile out here but when mine was stock i was ggetting 130km's now after head work,header,3"exhaust high flow cat, 31/2" cai k&n and other various mods im running 152 kmph and i dont run a tach i sift every 40 km's im canandian cars arent in mph but if u push a 2.2 much past that for rev u will hurt the engine and hit valve float
