i'd look for a 3400. the 60* v6s share the trans bolt pattern with the ohv engines, but from what i hear, the 3400 has the most potential from all of them.

There is no 94 Sunfire. Thats probably why you can't find anything other than 2.2 and 2.4. In 94 it was a SunBIRD...... Totally different body.

For swapping in the 3.1 (not sure if the 94 has that or the 3100) I wouldn't wast time with it. It's only 140hp. You'd get the same gain with an ECOTEC swap (although, less torque with the ECOTEC). Going to the 3400 brings you up to 180hp 205tq. Or you can find a 3100 that's model year 2000 or newer, which has the same top end as the 3400, and get 170hp.

94 Sunbird=3.1 MPFI. Not worth the effort to swap. Stick with a 3x00 SFI with the smooth manifold (older 3100's have ridge lines on the manifold). Much better flowing intake and heads. You CAN, however, use the ECM/harness from the 3.1 in the Sunbird, but it may not be legal in your state, since it's stepping backward in ODB lines. Check your local laws. For your 96 car, I'd recommend the 96 Grand Am ECM/Harness, and an 00-02 3100 or 3400.
