STOCK 3400 EXHAUST

I bought the stock exhaust for mine and dynoed it again because it felt sluggish. Lost 12hp and 6tq. Took it back off and returned it lol. Getting a custom exhaust made sometime soon. You guys that are running the stocker should upgrade to bigger pipe.

COMING SOON! VERY NICE!

what part are you talking about, the downpipe or from the converter back. Im assuming that you mated the two exhausts at the flange after the cat. So after the cat would be the stock cav right? So your talking about that part, not the 3400 down pipe. I think thats already 2.5". the cav stuff is 2'. I really wouldnt doubt it that it robs HP.

No im actually talking about the down pipe with the converter. Took it back off and put back on my "flexy bendy" pipe and HP and TQ were back to norm.

I run a 2.5" pipe all the way up to the stock exhaust manifold. I didn't get the factory GA downpipe with mine.

I do know that ZZPerformance has a downpipe for the Grand Am and other 3400 cars. Actually, I think the connection was different on the Grand Am, on the back side of the pipe and was out of stock when I checked last. That won't matter though as the exhaust it likely to be custom on the J-body. You can order it with the cat, or you can get an off-road pipe.

So do you think the HP is gained from removing the cat? I thought that the downpipe was 2.5" . Is your flexy pipe larger or just no cat is causing the Hp gain? Most places gotta have a cat, i saw a fake looking one the other day on the net, straight through pipe with a converter shell welded to it, pretty neat. Cant beat a sniffer test though.

The pipe I got was from advance auto parts. It was the pipe from the header with the converter. It was double walled pipe. The outer "shell" was 2.00 inches. The inner pipe was only 1 3/4 inch LOL. Ya huge restriction. I have 2.5 flexy pipe on it now and its running great. Painted the flexy pipe tonight with some high temp paint so that it wont rust and so far its looking good.
