dropping a 99 2200 into a 98 z24

Will it work... taking a 2200 sfi from a 99 auto drop into a 98 z24 auto. I'm pretty sure they just drop right in if I'm not mistaken.I searched and it seems like it will just drop in and the harnesses will plug right in.

So will it work...and what will i know to make the swap?

I think from 98 till they started the EcoTec they were all the same 2200 motor?

Why would you replace a 2.4 with a 2.2? Even if you did it its not a direct swap. Harness, computer, transmission, and probably a bunch of other stuff, are going to be different.

You need a new tranny, exhaust, ECM, wiring harness, AC plumbing if you have AC.

Why would you want to do this swap? You're going to go through a lot of trouble to put in an engine that doesn't perform as well.

Wow

Time to do more research.

If your replacing it.....put a 2.4 back in it. I went from a 2200 to a 2.4 in my old car, and it was quite a bit of work. More then I had expected, but all in all....the motor will bolt up lol...that is it

I'm not doing the swap... someone wants to buy the motor from my car, the 1999 2200sfi auto and put it in his 98 z24 auto so that he can get it running again.

Wow. If you can sell it to him, and he knows what he's getting into, good for you. However, the person that wants your motor is really wasting his money on your motor because of everything else they'll need to swap. Their best bet is to get another 2.4.

I just want to get rid of the motor.. my car was wrecked and i'm parting it out.I didn't ask for everyones crap about how its a bad engine or that it's a waste of money. All i asked was what i would need for the swap.

No need to get into a 2.2 vs. a 2.4 argument over this.

So back to the question. What else would be needed.I know the motor, wiring harness, and the computer from the 2200.

Anything else he would need to do the swap?

If you read my first post, I told you what you needed.

With a response like this, you won't get a lot more help. Definitely no more from me.

That wasn't directed at you Quiklilcav.I thank you for your help and my brain just kinda took a fart when reading your post.

About the exhaust... would using the 2.2 mani and the 2.4 piping work or will everything from the header back be needed?

And i found out that he just need the motor so he can use the car while he preps for a v6 swap.

youll have to change from exhaust mani to downpipe/cat. after the cat youll be good

if this dude is doing a v6 swap he should be able to put a simple 2.2 in his car. unless hes paying someone to do it for him...

and honestly, as much as you dont want to hear it, copping an attitude with people who are trying to help you will get you nowhere fast.

What is with all these post on people asking questions if certain parts will fit cause they want to sell something to someone.
It's not your car. Sell it to this guy for whatever and be done with it. Are you gonna help install the motor? Seems like you are getting all worked up trying to find a way to make it work for someone else. Have them worry about that.

yeah but its a better selling point if you can sell a swappable part to someone rather than having to say "maybe itll fit maybe it wont"

If that was the case, I would be "limited" on my knowledge. I would say that I know the Cavalier's also came with that engine, but I don't know of anyone that personally has done that swap. Accept money, sell engine, and be done with it.

I know that's not the nice thing to do, but if they don't wanna do the research, it's their problem.

Here is your list

Exhaust from manifold to cat
Engine
Transmission
Clutch
Computer from the 2200
Complete engine wiring harness
Evap system will need to be moved around
Intake
Upper engine mount that bolts to the block (single to twin cam)
Axles= the same
Trans mounts are the same

Thats all off the top of my head. If I think of more, I'll let you know

Well the main reason i asked was so what i would need to know what to pull from my car.

I also thought the same thing, just sell the motor, accept cash and be done with it,but then i'd feel like a @$$... but i'm starting really want to get rid of the heap in the driveway, and buy a new car.

you have a donor car, swap everything from it to the new car. done.

you should have the guy come on here so we can explain to him how much of a waste it would be.

I applaud you for not wanting to just sell it and be done with it. I couldn't do that to anyone myself.

Also, for those who would just take the money and run, why not find out everything the guy will need from your car so you can sell it all to him?
Conscience aside, the more parts he will need, the more parts this guy can sell him.
