Hey guys. I'm new to the forum and i was hoping someone could answer a question for me. I have a '96 cavalier with a ohv 2.2 that popped a motor recently. So i went to the junkyard and grabbed one from a '95. Problem is the '95 motor doesn't have a provision for the cam sensor. Is there any way i can use this motor? many thanks in advance.
It's because the 96 is OBD-II and the 95 is OBD-I.
Only way I know if is that you'll have to drill and tap the block for the cam sensor. But then you'll have to swap cams for one with a sensor wheel on it.
So if i were to get a 95 ecu and wiring harness, would that work? If it did, how much of a pain would it be?
The 95 block should have the hole for the cam sensor. It will have a small freeze plug in it that you will have to remove. If your cam in the 96 is still good you could swap it in and then you are good to go.
